Leo Bei (musician)
Leo Gustav Bei (born January 9, 1958 in Mödling , also known under the pseudonym Karl "Charly" Horak ) is an Austrian musician .
Life
Better known under the pseudonym Karl Horak , he played bass guitar for many years with "Ostbahn Kurti & die Chefpartie", a Viennese rock'n'roll band. At the same time he was responsible for the recording and production of at least six albums by Kurt Ostbahn , each of which achieved gold status. Leo Bei has been musically active since he was fourteen and has mastered the instruments bass, piano / keyboard, electric and acoustic guitar. The first band was called "Crumb" (1980). In 1996 the collaboration with the pop / rock group Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung began . This lasted until 2014.
In 2003 he released the solo record Horak'n'Roll , which included songs from the past 10 years. Many parts were recorded by themselves, but there were also guests (including Christian Eigner , Robert Baumgartner , and many others). In Austria Leo Bei is a recognized, extremely versatile musician and producer with roots in rock. He played with many artists a. a. Harri Stojka , Peter Wolf together.
Leo Bei released his German-language album Horak in 2007 , which is available for free download on his homepage. Well-known musicians such as Hannes Wildner, Peter Wolf, Wolfgang Laab , Robert Baumgartner, Herbert Tampier and many others were involved in the creation of this production.
He runs a recording studio in Vienna. In the Austrian series MA 2412 in the episode "Kebab" he made a guest appearance as operator of a kebab stand.
His son Leo Luca, born in 1994, is also a musician.
Equipment
Several Fenders (Precision Bass 1963, fretless Jazz Bass, 1962/73, Lakeland Skyline, Fender Stratocaster , 1962) serve as the main instrument . An Ampeg B5-R, an Ampeg SVT and an amplifier from Fender are usually used as amplifiers. Acoustic guitars are a Martin D-28 (1956) as well as instruments from Ovation and Takamine.
Arrangements
Leo Bei is the head and founder of the band HORAK (Andreas Abraham and Leo Luca Bei (guitars) and Robert Baumgartner (drums)). Since 2017 he has also been playing bass with the Boring Blues Band .
