Leo Katcher

Leo Katcher (born October 14, 1911 in Bayonne , New Jersey , † February 27, 1991 in Oceanside , California ) was an American journalist , screenwriter and writer .

Life

After leaving school, Katcher studied at the University of Pennsylvania and New York University and then became a journalist. After working for the daily newspapers Philadelphia Ledger and Philadelphia Record , he worked for the tabloid New York Post , where he became local editor in the late 1930s. After World War II he became the New York Post correspondent for the West Coast of the United States .

He began his career as a screenwriter in the film industry in Hollywood in 1950 with the submission to that of Gordon Douglas staged crime and adventure film Between Midnight and Dawn (Between Midnight and Dawn, 1950) with Mark Stevens , Edmond O'Brien and Gale Storm in the lead roles . Until 1963 he wrote the templates for a total of nine films.

At the Oscar ceremony in 1957 he was nominated for the Oscar for best original story nominated, namely for under the title The Eddy Duchin Story (The Eddy Duchin Story, 1956), directed by George Sidney resulting biopic about jazz pianist and bandleader Eddy Duchin with Tyrone Power in the title role and Kim Novak and Victoria Shaw in other roles.

His 1959 novel The Big Bankroll. The Life and Times of Arnold Rothstein provided the template for King of the Roaring 20's: The Story of Arnold Rothstein , in which director Joseph N. Newman filmed the life story of the businessman , notorious gambler and mobster Arnold Rothstein with David Janssen in the lead role . In 1967 he stayed in the Federal Republic for nine months and wrote the book Post mortem: the Jews in Germany - now about his conversations .
