Leonie Kubigsteltig

Leonie Kubigsteltig (* 1981 in Steinfurt ) is a German theater director , dancer and choreographer .

Life

Leonie Kubigsteltig studied applied cultural studies and aesthetic practice at the University of Hildesheim and theater studies as well as comparative literature and philosophy at the Ruhr University in Bochum . In 2002 she went to England to study contemporary dance at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds . This was followed by a Master’s degree in Movement Direction at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. She initially worked as a choreographer and stage director for numerous UK companies and theaters, including the Royal Shakespeare Company , the Young Vic, Gate Theater , Paines Plow and Sonia Friedman Productions (WestEnd), and produced and directed at the Southwark Playhouse, among others.

After returning to Germany in 2012, she worked as an assistant and director at the Schauspiel Frankfurt . Here she translated and staged the German-language premiere of Beautiful Burnout by Bryony Lavery as her first participatory project.

Your staging of the German-language premiere of Der Zeuge by Vivienne Franzmann took place in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art as part of the exhibition The Divine Comedy. Heaven, Hell, Purgatory from the perspective of contemporary African artists. At the Theater Kiel she directed in 2015 Native Mameloschn of Marianna Salzmann . Since then she has worked closely with the set designer Katrin Bombe.

In addition to a focus on new drama, Kubigsteltig develops research and participation projects, such as Sucht for the Junge Schauspiel Frankfurt in 2014 and Die Agonisten , a dance and music theater project with young people (with and without refugee experience) at FFT Düsseldorf in 2015 . In 2015 she was the artistic director of Kabawil eV Düsseldorf as part of this project. She is a graduate of the part-time training in music and theater management at the LMU Munich .
