Leopold Bilogan

Leopold Bilogan (born November 11, 1912 in Vienna ; † May 25, 1995 there ) was an Austrian officer , most recently with the rank of colonel . As Major Bilogan was instrumental in the development of the involved air forces of the Armed Forces .

Live and act

After primary school, Leopold Bilogan attended the Bundesrealgymnasium Wien 12 in Meidling and graduated in 1931. He graduated from the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt , which he graduated in September 1936.

In the First Republic , Bilogan was already a member of the initially “illegal” Austrian air force. He acquired his military pilot's license as a member of the 1931/32 aviation course year at the “ÖLAG Aviation School Graz-Thalerhof”. As an officer in the German Air Force , he was deployed in various functions during World War II . In 1940 he was a member of the Franco-German Armistice Commission. Towards the end of the war, Bilogan commanded a battalion of paratroopers in the occupied Netherlands .

After the Second World War, Bilogan belonged to the B-Gendarmerie School II and was accepted into the new federal army . He was instrumental in building up the Austrian air force in the Second Republic . As a major, he became the first in command of the Air Base Division I. He had been working for the National Defense Office on building up the air force since autumn 1955 . Lieutenant Gustav Golja was assigned to him as adjutant . Bilogan was commissioned to start operations by May 1, 1956.

The Air Base Division I was dissolved with effect from September 1, 1957, because from this point in time there was an Air Base Command for each Air Base. As a major, Bilogan became the first commandant of the Langenlebarn air base command, as well as the barracks commandant and local commandant.

Private

Leopold Bilogan had a son from his first marriage. His second marriage was Helga, born in Berlin. Ressel (1920-2005). This marriage resulted in a son and a daughter. His son-in-law was the politician and colonel in the Austrian army, John Gudenus . His grandson is the former politician and FPÖ club chairman in the National Council Johann Gudenus.

Bilogan is buried in the Hietzingen cemetery .
