Leopold Melchior von Rotberg (born February 18, 1673 in Bad Bellingen-Bamlach , † August 16, 1736 in Bad Wildbad ) was a senior official of the Margraviate of Baden-Durlach and the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel .

Court career

Leopold Melchior von Rotberg first entered the service of Margrave Friedrich VII. Magnus von Baden-Durlach , who appointed him court counselor and court master in 1696 . He was one of the tutors of Margrave Christoph von Baden-Durlach . In 1714 he then rose under the Margrave Karl III. Wilhelm to privy councilor and upper court marshal and in 1718 the margrave sent him on a diplomatic mission to the Bavarian and Palatinate courts. In 1720 he sold his house in Karlsruhe , the new residence of Baden, to the margrave. He then entered the service of the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel, Karl , as a secret legation councilor , whom he then represented at the Polish court in 1721.

Honors

On June 17, 1715, after the brother of the founder of the order of Margrave Karl Wilhelm, he became the second knight of the newly established Baden House Order of Loyalty and at the same time the first order chancellor of this order. He held this office until his death.

Rotberg was born to Arnold von Rotberg and Juliana Sophia von Nottleben. Rotberg married Salomea von Günzer on September 15, 1705. Wilhelm von Rotberg comes from this marriage .
