Leopold Pilichowski
Leopold Pilichowski (born March 23, 1869 in Schneidemühl , † July 28, 1934 in London ) was a Polish genre painter of Jewish descent.
He began his painting training with his relative Samuel Hirszenberg in Łódź . He then studied painting in Warsaw in 1886 with Wojciech Gerson , from April 18, 1888 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Otto Seitz and Simon Hollósy and at the Académie Julian in Paris .
In 1894 he had his first solo exhibition in Łódź. In 1904 he went to Paris and in 1914 he settled in London with his wife Lena Pillico and four young children. He visited Palestine in 1925 on the occasion of the opening of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem . In 1926 he was elected chairman of the Ben Uri Art Society. Pilichowski died in London in 1934.
Leopold Pilichowski's works were dedicated to the life of the Jewish population in Eastern Europe . He joined the Zionist movement. His works are exhibited in the National Museum in Kraków , the Museum of the City of Łódź (Muzeum Miasta Łodzi) and the Jewish Museum in New York .
