Leopold Sebastian von Manstein

Leopold Sebastian von Manstein (* July 22, 1717 in Juckstein ; † April 26, 1777 in Tangermünde ) was Prussian major general , governor of Tilsit and Cörlin .

Life

origin

His parents were the Prussian captain Friedrich Wilhelm von Manstein and his third wife Katharina Elisabeth von Gessler . Major General Johann Gottlieb Wilhelm von Manstein was his brother.

Career

In Prussian service he came to the Dragoon Regiment No. 1 (Normann) and became Premier-Lieutenant on May 7, 1741, and Major in March 1758 . In 1759 he became a lieutenant colonel and in the same year a colonel . In April 1762 he took over the Cuirassier Regiment No. 7 (Horn) and in September 1764 he became Major General.

He was able to distinguish himself in the battles of Reichenberg and Pretzschendorf (January 7, 1760), as well as in the battle of Kolin . For this he received the order Pour le Mérite . He was sponsored by King Friedrich II . In addition, on June 7, 1768, he received the administration of Tilsit and on June 14, 1770 that of Cörlin.

In his honor, a bust of the general was erected in St. Stephen's Church in Tangermünde.

He was married to one from Barefoot and had a son and a daughter.
