Leopold Walcher from Molthein

Leopold Ottokar Johann Walcher Ritter von Molthein (born November 29, 1824 in Vienna ; † May 21, 1911 ibid) was an Austrian diplomat .

Life

He studied law at the University of Vienna and was awarded a Dr. iur. PhD. In 1850 he resigned as Konsulareleve into the consular service. He initially worked briefly at the Central Sea Authority in Trieste , then from 1851 at the consulates in Smyrna , Galatz and Alexandria . In 1859 he became vice consul in Vidin , and in 1863 consul there. In 1864 he became consul in Jerusalem , in 1866 head of the consulate general in Palermo and in 1869 consul general there. In 1871 he was transferred to Paris as consul general , where he was also the commercial office director at the embassy. In 1883 he retired.

He was a well known collector of Greek coins. A catalog of the collection was published in 1895, and in 1901 it was auctioned at Adolph E. Cahn in Frankfurt.

His sons were the architect Humbert Walcher von Molthein (1865–1926) and the art historian and collector Alfred Walcher von Molthein (1867–1928).
