occupation

Trouble at Timpetill is a French children's film by Nicolas Bary from 2008 . The script is based on the novel Timpetill. The City Without Parents (1937) by Henry Winterfeld .

action

Timpelbach is a small, idyllic place. But the idyll is clouded by the pranks and the bad behavior of the children towards the adults. The parents decide to teach the children a lesson and leave the village - supposedly forever. Unfortunately, however, they are arrested by soldiers in the forest and actually do not return. They now depend on the mood of the opposing general, played by Gérard Depardieu .

The children are on their own. Two groups or gangs are formed, one of which is led by Oscar. In this group there is violence e.g. B. by devastating shops, looting of supplies and excessive festivities. The other group around Manfred and Wolfgang / Marianne acts more sensibly in the sense of the parents. There are conflicts between the groups that lead to a great battle. Oscar's group is chased into an old mine on the outskirts of the city. Thanks to their ingenious inventions by Manfred and Wolfgang, calm returns to the village. In the end, the parents come back and their return is celebrated with joy.

production

After three short films, Les enfants de Timpelbach is the first feature film by Nicolas Bary, who was 26 in 2008 . The same age producer Dimitri Rassam is the son of Carole Bouquet , who starred in the film. In the footsteps of his father, the film producer Jean-Pierre Rassam who died in 1985 , Dimitri Rassam has now made his own first feature film.

Conceptually, the story is similar to William Golding's novel Lord of the Flies , which also tells the story of a group of children who suddenly have to live without adults. In contrast to Golding's novel, the “reasonable”, democratic group of children in Timpetill wins the upper hand.

The film was funded by EURIMAGES with 600,000 euros.

The film was shot in the following locations:

The film was released in France and Belgium on December 17, 2008.
