Leta Semadeni

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Leta Semadeni (born October 26, 1944 in Scuol in the Lower Engadine ) is a Swiss poet and narrator who writes and publishes bilingual in Vallader and in German . She lives in Lavin and is considered one of the most renowned representatives of Rhaeto-Romanic poetry and contemporary storytelling. A special feature of her work is the continuous bilingualism , in which every language has its equal rights: she "maneuvers ... between the two idioms without fear of contact".

Life

Leta Semadeni grew up in Scuol as the second of four siblings. Her father was the secondary school teacher, writer, theater director and playwright Jon Semadeni . She obtained the Matura at the High Alpine Daughter Institute in Ftan . Semadeni was trained as a Germanist and as a secondary school teacher.

As a teacher in particular philological subjects, she taught for seven years at the Jewish School in Zurich and then for 22 years at the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz . At Radio e Televisiun Rumantscha , she worked parallel to teaching on the program Il balcun tort (German: «Der Erker »).

In 2005 she quit her job as a teacher, and since then she has devoted herself entirely to writing. In 2016 she was one of the winners of the CHF 25,000 Swiss Literature Prize .
