The Leutra is a 12 km long brook in Thuringia, initially in the Saale-Holzland district , which flows into the middle Saale from the left in the Maua district of the independent city of Jena .

course

The Leutra springs about 400 meters west of the village edge of Milda in Saale-Holzland to about 413  m of the located on the edge of a field path Leutraquelle those on the shell-high area of the natural space Ilm-Saale-Ohrdrufer plate is located. In a strip of meadow the stream initially runs east-northeast, after passing the village on the northern edge then almost northeast through a rapidly deepening valley gully called Leutragraben , which is mostly filled with forest. About 3.5 km below the source, shortly after its crossing into the area of the municipality of Bucha, the noticeably shorter stream from the Amselberg runs from the left and west , next to which the A 4 now also enters the valley below the village of Schorba , which leads to the valley End in it remains. It is now called Leutratal and moves from here with initially only more forest on the upper slope edge eastwards. The bottom of the Kerbsohlental, on which the meandering brook swings around the highway from now on, is already below 320  m .

Less than a kilometer further to the east, it passes the small town of Pösen on the left slope, shortly afterwards another body of water runs inconsistently from the Tünschke valley gully from the more distant Zimmritz on the plateau to the right, after which the valley almost fills up again for about two kilometers entirely with forest; About in the middle of this section the short Liebertal runs to the right , after which the Leutra moves on to Jena city area. From the restoration of the floodplain to the next valley town of Leutra , there are still almost two kilometers, on which the all short and right-hand forest valleys of Kaltes Tal , Ölklauen and Töppel flow into the Leutratal. After the village of Leutra, through which it flows, the Bachtal widens in a funnel shape , between the spurs Jagdberg left and Spitzenberg right it goes between the Unterermühle, which is well below Leutra, and the Jena district of Maua that soon follows into the wide Saale valley. After a further kilometer east through Maua and on its edge, where it crosses the B 88 and finally the Saalbahn on the eastern edge of the village , the Leutra joins the middle Saale next to the sports field on the right edge of the floodplain at 149  m from the left .

properties

The Leutra drains a catchment area of about 19.4 km², loses about 244 m in height on its 12.4 km long course and therefore has a respectable mean bed gradient of about 20 ‰. The left slope of the Leutra Valley from the re-establishment of the valley forest below Pösen down to Leutra is part of the Leutratal and Cospoth nature reserve . In the local area of Maua, extensive construction work on the watercourse took place between 2013 and 2014, which should contribute to the renaturation of the stream.
