Levent Tuncat (born July 29, 1988 in Duisburg ) is a Turkish-born German Taekwondoin (graduation: 3rd Dan ).

Athletic career

Tuncat is multiple national champion with the students and youth in the North Rhine-Westphalian Taekwondo Union (NWTU). In 2003 and 2005 he was runner-up in the European Championship for young people. At the European Championships 2005 in Riga Levent Tuncat won the final in the men's weight class up to 54 kg. At the European Championships in Greece in 2000, the starters Aziz Acharki , Faissal Ebnoutalib and Erol Denk became European champions. At the 2006 European Championships, which were held in Bonn from May 26th to 28th, Tuncat was able to defend his title and became European Champion for the second time. At the European Championships 2008, which were held in Rome from April 10th to 13th, Tuncat won the title again and was thus European champion in three different weight classes for the third time. At the end of September 2007 Tuncat was able to secure an Olympic starting place for Germany in the weight class up to 58 kg at the world qualification tournament in Manchester . Germany therefore sent the maximum number of four athletes to the 2008 Olympic Games . In Beijing Levent Tuncat was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Rohullah Nikpai from Afghanistan. He won the bronze medal at the 2015 European Games in Baku .

Honors

Levent Tuncat was honored on the occasion of the state championship in Taekwondo on December 18, 2005 in Schleiden ( Eifel ) by NRW Interior Minister Ingo Wolf and awarded for his first European championship title. Furthermore, he received the Golden Badge of Honor of the NWTU from the hands of the NWTU President Josef Wagner. He received the golden badge of honor with a silver laurel wreath from the President of the DTU. In April 2008 he was voted Duisburg Sportsman of the Year 2007 by the local press.
