Lew Wolodymyrowytsch Pyssarschewskyj (born March 1 . Jul / 13. March 1874 greg. In Chisinau , Bessarabia Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 23. March 1938 in Dnipropetrovsk , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian - Soviet chemist.
Life
Lev Pyssarschewskyj went to a high school in Chișinău and in 1882, after the family moved to Odessa, to the Richelieu Lyceum there until 1892 . He then studied at the Novorossijskij University in Odessa until 1896 and then prepared there for a professorship. In 1900 he continued his education in Leipzig and in the same year won the great Lomonossow Prize . In 1902 he defended his dissertation at the University of Odessa.
In 1904 he became a chemistry professor at the University of Tartu and taught there until 1908. Between 1908 and 1911 he was a professor at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute . He then moved to Saint Petersburg , where he taught at the Bestuschewskije kursy and at the Bechterew Psychoneurological Institute . From 1913 he was a professor at the Mining Institute and the University in Yekaterinoslav .
From 1927 he was the first director of the newly created Ukrainian Institute for Physical Chemistry (today the Institute for Physical Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine named after him) and at the same time between 1929 and 1934 professor of the Polytechnic Institute in Tbilisi .
Lev Pyssarshevskyj was a member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences since 1925 and an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR since 1930 .
Lev Pyssarshevskyi published over a hundred scientific papers that played an important role in the development of modern chemistry.
Honors
In 1930 he received the Lenin Prize and in 1936 he was awarded the Order of Lenin .
In 1961 a street in Kiev was named after him.
