The Libín (German Liebing , formerly Libin , 1093 m) is a wooded mountain in the Czech Republic . It rises four kilometers south of the center of Prachatice . The mountain is the highest point in the foothills of the Bohemian Forest . At its summit there is a lookout tower, the Berghotel Libín and two other buildings as well as two geodetic points and a high ropes course.
geography
The Libín is the dominant feature of the Libin ridge, which extends from north to south and drops steeply on three sides: to the east to the valley of the Živný potok (Rohnbach) , northwest to the valley of the Fefrovský potok (Pfefferschlager Bach) and in the north to the Prachatitzer Boiler. The Farský potok (Pfarrbach) and the Černý potok rise on the south-western slope of the ridge ; south of the Zlatý potok . Secondary peaks are the Na Vyhlídce (828 m) in the northwest and the Na Skalce (1025 m) and the Rohanovský vrch (1010 m) in the south. The Libín nature reserve is located on the northern slope of the Libín .
Surrounding places are Prachatice and Lázně svaté Markéty in the north, Kandlův Mlýn, Velišův Mlýn, Starý Bolech and Jelemek in the north-east, Leptač and Rohanov in the east, Lučenice, Chroboly , Podlesí and Jelení Hora in the south -east, Skřínžejovice and Svižeovice in the south, south-east , Libínské Sedlo and Perlovice in the west and Záblatí , Horní Záblatí, Stádla and Volovice in the northwest.
Geomorphologically, the Libín belongs to the Bohemian Forest foothills, its subunit IB-2D Prachatická hornatina (Prachatitz Uplands ) , its district IB-2D-1 Libínská hornatina ( Libínská hornatina ) and its subdistrict IB-2D-1a Libínský hřbet (Libin ridge) .
history
Since the 11th century, the Goldene Steig led west of the Libin from Prachatitz over the Bohemian Forest to Bavaria . In the first half of the 14th century , the collegiate monastery of Vyšehrad had the Pfefferschlag settlement built in the woods on the Libiner Kamm .
In 1783, the St. Margarethenbad water spa was founded at a spring at the northern foot of the Libín . In 1808, a wooden chapel of St. Philipp Neri , between 1859 and 1861 it was replaced by a stone chapel. In the 19th century, diorite was broken on the mountain . Until the 19th century, the northern secondary summit Na Vyhlídce was referred to as Liebing , the main summit as Libin-Berg , and since the 1920s the German name Liebing was carried over to the entire mountain. Between 1881 and 1883, the Šumava Tourist Club in Prachatitz built a lookout tower on the Libín. In 1881 a Hegerhaus was also built with an adjoining hut and guest rooms. In 1898 and 1899, the Číčenice – Prachatitz railway line was extended to Wallern in the Bohemian Forest ; the new route led east through the valley of the Rohnbach and south over the Schreinetschlager Sattel (Skříněřovské sedlo) around the Libin ridge. The St. Margarethenbad spa was closed in 1935. The buildings on Libín had not been inhabited since 1951, and in 1962 they were devastated.
Observation tower
The idea of a lookout tower on the Libín came from the Fürstlich Schwarzenberg forest manager Suske. The Šumava Tourist Club, which was largely founded by the citizens of Prachatitz in 1880, organized concerts and theater performances to finance the project. Support took place u. a. by the Sparkasse and the Fürstlich Schwarzenbergische Forstamt, which provided 100 hundredweight of lime from the Krumau lime distillery free of charge for the construction of the tower . The 27 m high cylindrical brick tower was built between 1881 and 1883 by the Prachatitz master builder Franz Reichart according to plans by the Viennese architect Alexander Wiszkoczil. The construction costs amounted to 3580 guilders. In honor of Crown Prince Rudolf , who visited Prachatitz in 1871, the tower was named the Crown Prince Rudolf Tower . It was opened on September 16, 1883. From 1935 the tower was managed by the československých turistů (KČST) club. Its 1938 plans for a roof and glazing of the viewing terrace could not be realized due to the outbreak of the Second World War. During the war the tower was used as a military guard post for the Wehrmacht. In 1994 the tower was renovated and painted white. The striking tower can be seen from afar. The tower offers a wide view that extends to the Písecké Hory (Pisek Mountains) and the Temelín nuclear power plant in the north, and to the peaks of the Bohemian Forest ridge in the south and west . When visibility is good, the Alps are also visible to the south .
Libín nature reserve
The natural mountain rubble forest with spruce and beech trees on the northern slope was placed under protection in 1988 on an area of 68.99 ha.
Attractions
- Chapel of St. Philipp Neri, popularly known as the Patriarch's Chapel (kaple u Patriarcha) at a spring on the northern slope of the Libín. The stone building was built between 1859 and 1861 instead of a wooden chapel built in 1808. A Way of the Cross with 14 stations leads from Lázně svaté Markéty (St. Margaret's Bath ) to the Patriarchal Chapel. The niche chapels were painted by the painter Václav Kuneš between 1999 and 2004.
- High ropes course Libín, it was created in 2008 in the former diorite quarry on the summit and consists of six routes with a total of 80 obstacles.
