action

The 20-year-old cheerful Isa comes to the French city of Lille as a vagabond , where she meets the pessimistic Marie of the same age. She is taking care of an apartment because the owner had a car accident that only her daughter Sandrine survived. Despite their differences, the two get along well and Isa moves in with Marie. The two friends live into the day and keep their heads above water with odd jobs.

While Isa visits Sandrine, who is in a coma , in the hospital and takes care of her, Marie begins an affair with the wealthy club owner Chris. She dreams of a life with him and distances herself more and more from Isa, who Chris doesn't trust.

Finally, Chris asks Isa to break up with Marie for him. Marie's dream world collapses and she jumps out the window. At the same time, Sandrine begins to wake up from her coma. Isa finds work in a factory.

criticism

"An extraordinary first film, which convinces with the excellent cast of the leading roles and a concentrated camera work, which lets you forget some clichés in the drawing of the supporting roles."

- film service 21/1998

“The result of the film is a completely believable story. The grace of events is not sacrificed to his realism, he leaves the people the secret that they are to themselves. The plot is not "bigger than life", but rather with an unobtrusive social realism that is remotely reminiscent of earlier films by Mike Leigh or Ken Loach. "
