occupation

Liesl Karlstadt und Karl Valentin is an award-winning German television film from the director Jo Baier from 2008.

action

When the regionally known comedian Karl Valentin met the young soubrette Elisabeth Wellano during a performance in the Gasthaus Frankfurter Hof in Munich , Valentin recognized the singer's comic talent and began both a successful stage partnership and an amorous relationship with her. This is where the story begins and leads the viewer through many stations of the Valentin & Karlstadt couple, most of which adhere to the historical truth. Interrupted by a nervous disease in Liesl Karlstadt and the following war years, they did not make a comeback until 1947, which was not very successful.

The common history of the most famous Munich comedian duo ends with Karl Valentin's dramatic death in 1948.

production

Hofmann & Voges Entertainment GmbH produced this historically documented material on behalf of Bayerischer Rundfunk with director Jo Baier and screenwriter Ruth Toma, who had previously worked together successfully. The shooting took place from August 21, 2007 to October 5, 2007 in the Bavaria-Atelier in Munich-Geiselgasteig. The premiere was on June 25, 2008 at the Munich Film Festival; the first TV broadcast on December 10, 2008 on ARD.
