history

The company's beginnings go back to the Soviet Union . In 1959 the construction of a fertilizer plant not far from the central Lithuanian city of Kėdainiai began. In 1963 the production of sulfuric acid started, to which the production of superphosphate was added at the end of 1963 . After several expansions, phosphate production was diversified from 1996 and expanded to include diammonium hydrogen phosphate (1996) and the production of phosphates for animal feed (2000–2002). Since 2000, a turbo generator (25 MW ) has been converting the hot steam produced during the production of sulfuric acid into electricity, which, in addition to supplying the company, also supplies the city of Kėdainiai.

In 1995 the company was converted into a stock corporation under the name Fostra AB and privatized in 1996 (partial privatization as early as 1991–1994). In 2002 Lifosa AB was taken over by the Russian fertilizer manufacturer EuroChem. From 2012 to 2013, the company financed and built the Kėdainiai Arena sports arena .
