Liland is a place in the municipality of Evenes ( Sami Evenášši ) in the province of Nordland in northern Norway . It has 326 inhabitants.

geography

The place is located opposite the island Skogøya at the output of Øysunds in Ofotfjord or at the southwest end of the Arch Bay , a northern bulge of Ofotfjords, about 15 km (linear) west of Narvik and 7 km south-west of the town arch , the administrative center of the municipality of Evenes.

traffic

The Fylkesvei (provincial road) Fv721, branches off about 3 km north of Liland from the European route 10 , which in this section from Narvik to Harstad / Narvik Airport (Norwegian "Harstad / Narvik lufthavn, Evenes") leads south and runs along it the west coast of Bogenbucht through Liland and then further west along the north bank of the Ofotfjord to Evenes and Tårstad . Harstad / Narvik Airport is therefore only a 10-minute drive away. The cities of Narvik and Harstad are both less than an hour away.

economy

Liland used to be an important trading post, the commercial center of the entire Ofotfjord region until it was replaced by Narvik at the beginning of the 20th century, and was also the administrative center of the then Ofoten municipality until the municipality reorganization in 1884. It had important service functions such as a police station, post office, ship cargo office as well as a number of shops , docks and warehouses . Today the place is more geared towards tourism.
