Bogen i Ofoten or simply Bogen ( Sami : Ránda ) is a place on the Bogen Bay in the province of Nordland in Northern Norway . Bogen has 363 inhabitants and is the administrative seat of the municipality of Evenes ( Sami Evenášši ).

geography

The place is on the northern edge of the arched bay, a branch of the Ofotfjord , about 15 km west of Narvik . A narrow, short natural channel, the Strandelva , runs through Bogen from the Bogen Bay to the Strandvatnet lake north of the village . A mountainous landscape runs around Bogen, with Dragvikfjellet in the west, Litletinden in the northwest, Niingen in the north and Tverfjellet in the northeast.

The closest location is Liland, southwest of Bogen. Heading east is Bjerkvik in Narvik Municipality .

history

After the German occupation of Norway in World War II , the German operational Navy to surrender in May 1945 in the bow bay an important naval base , with a floating dock , quays and workshops , both surface ships as well as submarines in their attacks on Allied convoys in the North Sea as Base served. The dock was later moved to Moss.

The white, wooden chapel was built in 1920 and has a capacity of about 260 people. It was designed by the architect Bjarne Romszoe.

Economy and Infrastructure

The European route 10 runs in its section from Narvik to Lofoten on the north bank of the Bogenbucht and through Bogen i Ofoten. There is a bus connection to the place.

Arch served as a port of embarkation for the iron ore mines of Ofoten . They were last operated between 1936 and 1939. Today, Bogen has a mechanical workshop, an iron foundry and a wood goods factory. The Niingen power plant produces 11.3 MW annually . There is also a post office in town.

In Bogen there is a kindergarten and a primary school for grades 1 to 7.
