Lina Nilsson (born June 17, 1987 in Ystad ) is a Swedish football player . The defensive player, who is used both as a midfielder and defender , made her debut for the Swedish national team in 2009 .
Career
Nilsson began playing football at IFK Ystad , which is known primarily for its handball department, before joining the youth department of Sjöbo IF . There she was discovered by the people in charge of Svenska Fotbollförbundet and invited to the youth national teams of the association. This went through them and took part with the U-19 selection at the European Championship 2006 , in which the selection was eliminated in the group stage.
In 2006 Nilsson moved to the women's team at Malmö FF . There she made her debut in the 2006 season in the Damallsvenskan and also played in the Swedish U-23 team . In both teams she established herself in the defensive area. At the side of the national players Nilla Fischer , Linda Forsberg and Therese Sjögran , she matured to become a national player at the now independent club, which was renamed LdB FC, and was first appointed to the selection by Thomas Dennerby in the summer of 2009 . She made her international debut on July 19 that year in a 2-0 win over China , when she came on for Anna Paulson in the 55th minute .
With the national team she took part in the European Championship finals in 2009 and was nominated for the 2011 World Cup . In the quarter-finals against the Australians she came on in the 90th minute for her first World Cup appearance. With the 3-1 victory both the semi-finals against Japan and the qualification for the Olympic Games in London were reached . On July 16, 2011, she and the team won the game for third place in the 2-1 victory over France .
In 2012 she was only used in four of the first ten international matches, but she was still in the Swedish squad for the 2012 Olympic Games . There she was used in three out of four games. It was used in a total of nine games in 2012.
She was part of the squad for the EM 2013 , but was only used in two games.
In May 2015 she was nominated for the 2015 World Cup. She was used in the four games, but was eliminated with her team in the round of 16 against Germany .
