Middle gate Middle gate Kronenburg
Burgbering, between No. 11 and No. 16
map
In Kronenburg, a complex built on a mountain spur, the high medieval type of "fortified castle settlement" can be found in its purest form. The principle of the Gothic hilltop castle with several, self-contained, as ring-shaped as possible built around the main castle and only accessible one after the other was implemented here as an example and is still easy to read today. The lower part of the complex beginning at the north gate, the “lowest patch”, was originally reserved for farmers and craftsmen and ended at the central gate, a square pointed arch; this is where the “uppermost patch” inhabited by the castle men began. Another gate, which was demolished around 1900, led into the forecourt, which was defined by the “Burghaus” (now a hotel) and at the northwest corner of which was the entrance to the main castle.  14./15. century 10/27/1982

In the 19th century, the Eifel was opened up by railway lines. The main line between Cologne and Trier ran far past Blankenheim in 1870. The station built away from the village was named Blankenheim-Wald. From 1910 to 1913 the approximately 25 km long strategic Ahrdorf - Blankenheim-Wald railway line was built, the importance of which increased enormously due to the additional function as a branch station. The water tower, about 400m south of the Blankenheim-Wald reception building, was part of a small locomotive treatment facility with a two-tier locomotive shed and a coaling system. The tower consists of the tower shaft built or veneered in quarry stone masonry, the loft container with control passage and tent roof. around 1912/13 12/30/2004 129

A castle in Schmidtheim has been attested since the 12th century; only known about its shape is that it was a moated castle, the highest in the Rhineland. During the extensive expansion of the palace into a baroque mansion in 1627, the mighty, four-story residential tower from the 16th century was extended by two side wings to form an open three-wing complex, which was surrounded by a moat until 1890; In front of this is the three-winged outer bailey with the entrance next to the parish church. Only the garden gate and a smaller pavilion have survived from the 18th century Baroque gardens to the west. Schmidtheim Palace is today the most important secular architectural monument in the Dahlem community.  16th to 19th centuries; possibly with older remains. 05/19/1983 11
