Ensembles

Ensemble in the center of Mönchberg

Mönchberg goes back to a Carolingian rest station. The core of the place is marked by the outline of Mengebur Castle, which was built in the High Middle Ages and has now disappeared in an inner square . The village, which was given market rights and walled in the 14th century, formed concentrically around these. The through road was the north-south running, today's main road, originally provided with gates at its exits; the road to Eschau, which branches off to the northwest from the market square, is a modern breakthrough. On the main lanes around the former castle hill, larger farms in a regular row of parcels with the terrain adapted, seemingly random setting of the buildings, resulting in picturesque effects; Smaller, irregular development in the northwest and southeast area. The residential buildings are placed on the eaves and on the gable side, often not directly on the street, now mostly plastered half-timbered houses from the 17th and 18th centuries. Century, following the type of the "Spessarthaus", in some cases with covered stairs. The large number of such residential buildings in connection with the timber-framed farm buildings makes the ensemble value of the place. Breaks in the development are caused by the scale-breaking new town hall, a red sandstone block building from the late 19th century, and a few new buildings. The small market square with a closed row of gabled houses and the old half-timbered town hall as well as the churchyard, which occupies the place of the former castle with the baroque church dominating the place, are to be addressed as areas with a separate character. Boundary: the course of the town wall in the area of the gates that have been removed and the adjacent wall sections that have also disappeared, the boundary line must be drawn between the properties at Hauptstrasse 19/21 and 20/22 in the south and 61/63 and 60/62 in the north. File number: E-6-76-141-1.

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
