List of hospitals in Liberia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of hospitals in Liberia provides an overview of the medical infrastructure in the West African Republic of Liberia .

The medical care situation was first recorded by HIC Liberia in 2005 after the end of the civil war .

This existing medical infrastructure in Liberia is divided into:

  • 5 County Hospitals
  • 7 District Hospitals
  • 27 Health Centers
  • approx. 300 health clinics (country medical practices)
  • 1 Mobile Clinic (mobile medical practices run by aid organizations)
  • 1 Referral Hospital

Most of the medical practices and clinics in rural areas registered in the 1970s were destroyed and abandoned. The branch of the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg in the former miners' settlement of Bong Town no longer exists. An ambitious government plan envisaged the creation of 478 medical facilities by the end of 2011, but the reality is that the development of the Liberian health system has stalled due to chronic underfunding.

The following table shows the hospitals sorted by district affiliation. At ? the current status is still unknown. Official publications by the Liberian government and statements / reports from NGOs are used as the database. With (Location) the object in question can also be localized on a map / aerial photo.
