from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of chancellors includes the protonotaries and chancellors of the Mark Brandenburg from 1312 to 1650.

history

The Chancellery of the Margraves of Brandenburg was headed by a Protonotarius ( chief clerk , also land clerk ). This mainly had to fulfill administrative tasks. In 1312 the term chancellor appeared for the first time , but still in the sense of a head of the chancellery.

The new title appeared several times in the following decades. This office has been continuously awarded since 1443, now also with a fixed assignment of duties that included more influence and decision-making powers compared to the previous main clerks.

In 1652 the task of the leading person in charge of administration and affairs of state was transferred to the director of the College of Privy Councils, since 1695 with the designation of Real Secret Minister of Finance and Justice . Between 1770 and 1810, Grand Chancellors were appointed again, albeit under the Budget Ministers (later State Ministers ).
