Villa with garage, enclosure and villa garden | Am Bürgerheim 2 (map) |
around 1920/1925 | Architecturally and artistically important, in the traditionalist style of the 1920s.
The exposed property on the Bürgerpark is enclosed by a fence with pillars and a high plinth, as well as attached fence panels, some of which are made of gray wooden elements. From the recessed gate with gate (three pillars with a top made of artificial stone) the straight driveway (water-bound path surface) leads to a garage with a basement (with a canopy on two supports). This driveway divides the garden into the lower-lying fruit and vegetable garden in the north-east and the higher-lying front garden, utility area and park-like part of the garden in the south-west. An access path leads parallel to the driveway to the front house entrance, which resembles a veranda and has stair access on both sides. In the embankment between the driveway and the fruit and vegetable garden there is a staircase with eight steps, cheeks with columns and pillars and two vase attachments made of artificial stone. A magnolia and a larch characterize the front garden, two beeches, a whitebeam and groups of rhododendrons characterize the part of the park. The remainder of two rows of robinia with cut crowns stand on the northeast and southeast border. According to the owners, the water basin south of the villa is a later addition. The structure of the garden through a height offset and the division into clearly delimited garden and usage areas corresponds to the conception of the modern garden style of the 1920s / 1930s. The wide access road that divides the garden and the straight paths and squares surrounding the house separate and also connect the kitchen garden, front garden and part of the park. The location of the garden at the Bürgerpark, its opening to it and the solution of the garden structure, which is interesting in terms of function and design, are of artistic value. Villa with fence, gate and villa garden | Am Bürgerheim 4 (map) |
1920s | Parts of the enclosure are located on the properties at Ulmenstrasse 5a and Am Bürgerheim 4, a representative building in the neo-baroque style, enclosure made of stamped concrete with attachments in the reform style from the period after 1910, of architectural and gardening significance.
The reform style villa was built in the 1920s. It is surrounded by a regularly designed garden, which can also be assigned to the reform style. The fence system, largely preserved, documents the former size of the garden, which was built over in the southern part (today Am Bürgerheim 4) by a kindergarten and garages after 1945 and in the north-west (Ulmenstrasse 5a) by a residential building. The core area of the property by the villa was retained as a garden. Parts of the symmetrical path system are overgrown, but still legible. To the west of the villa is the driveway, which is aligned with the central axis of the villa with the main entrance, with a two-row avenue of cut winter linden trees. A row of trees made of four cut winter linden trees runs along the eastern boundary of the property, which also refers to the villa. In front of the east facade of the villa there is a mighty blood beech, which originally framed this side of the building with its symmetrically arranged counterpart, but its counterpart has been lost. In addition, valuable old trees were preserved, including horse chestnuts, a flutter elm, yew trees (Taxus baccata), a group of black pines as well as farm jasmine and rhododendron. Dendrological features such as blood beech and a swamp oak bear witness to the former owners' need for representation. An elaborately designed enclosure fence with a profiled base and crowned pillars made of stamped concrete runs along the eastern and western borders of the property. The fence panels made of ornamental grids are framed by concrete frames. The recessed gate system west of the villa on Ulmenstrasse with a double-winged access gate and two single-winged gates, also designed as ornamental grille, are of excellent design quality. Despite the losses, the garden around the villa is still very expressive. The penetration of house and garden, which was required by garden reform ideas even before 1900, is indicated in this property by the spatial allocation of parts of the house to parts of the garden. Residential house in semi-open development with garden, retaining walls and remains of the enclosure | On plan 7 (map) |
1771 | Architecturally, locally and in terms of urban development, it is essentially a baroque building, rich original inventory, the former widow's palace at Glauchau Castle, a well-preserved Biedermeier garden from around 1800 with a rarity, of importance in terms of garden history and garden art.
Description and justification of the garden monument: The garden, which has been preserved in its basic form and partially restored, was shown in this form in the ground plan of the town of Glauchau as early as 1799, and is essentially in the southeast of the house. An oval lawn is surrounded by a ring path. Between this and the enclosure there are wood belts on slightly arched terrain. Characteristic and framing the building are two Norway maples, one sycamore maple, two ash trees, two oaks, yews and lilacs. Younger flowering trees complement the old stock. An access road leads in a wide arc to the rear, northwestern garden area, which is terraced on the slope. The garden is accessed at three points (1. at the east corner of the house, 2. in the south-east in the axis of the house, 3. from the north-east via a staircase). The picket fence shows remains of pillars and plinths. To the west, the property is intercepted by a retaining wall with a fence attached. The two garden terraces close to the house in the north-east and south-west of the house are also protected by high walls made of quarry stone. The traditional gardens correspond to a design around 1800. Due to the exposed location at the castle and the use of the building (widow's seat), the garden had to meet representative requirements. A representation of the garden preserved when the ruling family fled in 1945 shows it in the style of the Biedermeier period. A bridge once led over the moat directly to the castle. The main parts of the garden (retaining walls, fencing, wood belt, restored pathways) show the traditional structure of a small, early landscaped complex around 1800, which is a rarity. In terms of garden history, it is a gem. Due to its exposed location, it has urban development value. (LfD / 2014)

Terraced garden with retaining walls, rear building and orangery | Brüderstraße 15 (map) |
around 1800/1830 (house garden) | Garden created on behalf of the factory owner and city councilor Carl Ziegler of regional garden history, garden art and urban development importance, the so-called "Hanging Gardens" of Glauchau, significant view from the garden to the castle.
Description and justification of the garden monument: The garden laid out by the manufacturer and city councilor Ziegler around 1830 is divided into
The upper garden forms a pentagon, which is supported by two high retaining walls at an obtuse angle to each other to the west and north. The corner of these walls has been developed into a small bastion (formerly the location of a garden shed or pavilion, today a seat) and seems to be in the central axis of the house. The northern retaining wall ends with a parapet wall, the bastion has an attached railing, on the western retaining wall there are pillars with fence panels (metal construction). The garden area is divided into a large, circular, central lawn area with borders and a ring path, side beds and a seat on the south side. The orangery located in the northeast has four windows into this garden area and on the east side has access to the rear rooms attached to the orangery. From the Brüderstraße one reaches the garden through the passage of the front house, over the inner courtyard, which is fortified with sandstone slabs, and the passage of the rear house. On the west side of the upper garden, four high retaining walls intercept the garden terraces, which lie on top of one another in steps on what was once the impact slope of the hollow. They are connected to each other by a straight flight of stairs with 22, 16 and 14 sandstone steps on the southern border. From the upper garden another staircase with 16 steps leads down to the top of these four terraces near the bastion. The straight terrace walls also form bastion-like feeds below the upper bastion. These are also connected by stairs. Another small terrace with a niche-like vault is located in the corner area between the first and second terrace. The north slope is structured by parallel paths, low walls and embankments. On this side, a staircase with 20 steps made of sandstone leads to a small square with an 18 meter deep well (two sandstone water basins and a new manual pump), which is located on the narrow side of the orangery. Two apple trees, a cornel and a plum tree in the upper garden and two apple trees on the fourth terrace make up the fruit tree population. The deciduous trees framing the view are essential for the visual links to the castle and the landscape. There is an ash tree on the fourth terrace in the north, a Norway maple on the northern slope area and two tall linden trees standing close together in the south of the first terrace, right next to the entrance to the city's underground passages. The trees (ash and sycamore) on the slope of the neighboring property to the south are just as important for framing the view of the castle. A wall overgrown with ivy stretches up the slope on the southern border of the property. On the north slope there are pillars as the remains of a fence that also climbs the slope. The Zieglersche Terrassengarten is the only remaining garden of the former Hanging Gardens of Glauchau, which stretched above the Röhrensteig to the garden on Plan 2. The gardens, in an exposed location, have been completely preserved in their basic structure, with the cleverly laid out terraces, an extraordinary engineering and design achievement of the early 19th century. (Parts of the retaining walls may even be of older origin.) Its view from below and its view, which can be seen at different heights, is unique. For Glauchau it is the most valuable garden of the early 19th century, which as a terrace is also a rarity nationwide. It has special value in terms of garden design, garden history and urban planning. (LfD / 2014, Ragnhild Kober-Carrière) The terrace garden was laid out around 1830 on behalf of Carl Ziegler. He was a city councilor and factory owner at the time. Until 1862 the property was owned by his widow Clara Auguste. This is followed by the owners Friedrich Ferdinant Haussmann and JG Lochmann, between 1872 and 1878 parts of the site were used for teaching purposes at the nearby Wehrdigt school. The property is divided into two clearly separable areas. On the one hand, the residential building with inner courtyard, built in 1750, which was built as a row house directly on Brüderstraße. On the other hand, the garden area, with the upper terrace at residential building level, the orangery built in 1847 and the terraces staggered in height. Villa with garden and enclosure | Chemnitzer Strasse 3 (map) |
1843-1844 | Once a historicizing building, rebuilt and expanded in 1925, at times factory owner's ownership, of architectural, garden and local significance, with gables and pilaster strips, primarily neoclassical construction, well-preserved, high-quality interior.
Description and justification of the garden monument: The villa garden apparently contains several design phases, which are related to the location of the villa in the south of the Kreutzgraben, the first villa construction in 1844, the extension of the greenhouse in 1910 and the renovation and expansion of the villa by two window axes to the west in 1925. The villa garden once also comprised parcels 829/1 and 829/3 (greenhouse, now pharmacy), today has the following garden parts on parcel 829/2:
The Kreutzgraben in the north of the villa with a piped moat forms the low-lying garden level of the villa garden and has the following trees: linden, plane, ash, sycamore, beech. The garden is fenced off with a picket fence towards Agrikolastraße. The enclosure on Chemnitzer Straße consists of a fence system with fence panels made of metal construction, plinths (plastered masonry made of soapstone) and pillars as well as a recessed gate system (gate in metal construction with two pillars, two gates and two arched wall sections), which apparently a previous one Replaced gate system. The "K" incorporated into the gate wing refers to the Kratz family, who founded the neighboring Kratz & Burk factory (mechanical weaving mill) in 1854 and owned the villa from 1859 onwards. Interesting is the staircase leading into the moat, which obviously still refers to the building axis of the original villa. In the west of the villa, land was backfilled after 1945. The garden around the villa is impaired by the current renovation of the villa. The villa and garden bear witness to an early city expansion to the east on previously used garden land. Due to the existing terrain, the garden was laid out on different levels. The garden parts were thus strictly separated from each other and their basic structure could be retained. The monument value of the garden lies in this structure and the preserved woody stock. It is of importance in terms of garden history and local history. (LfD / 2014, Ragnhild Kober-Carrière)

Villa with attached outbuilding, villa garden and fence | Clementinenstrasse 8 (map) |
1913, 1916-1917 | Significant local history, architectural history, art history and garden history, representative villa building in the reform style of the time around 1910 by the well-known Dresden architects Lossow & Kühne, built for the textile manufacturer Arthur Lossow (brother of the designing architect William Lossow ).
Description and justification of the garden monument: The garden area and valuable trees have been preserved. The wide garden terrace in front of the northwest facade, which was preceded by a generous planning, is to be emphasized. A balustrade originally intended here was not implemented. The lawn terrace forms the connecting element between the villa and the garden in the northwest and southwest of the building, which extends to the southeast. The addition and complexity of the components thus make the building and terrace a unit. The garden, which today seems to have been cleared, was certainly laid out with a similar generosity. The integration of previously existing trees suggests this. A mighty beech tree characterizes the garden area in the south-west of the villa. Another beech tree and two linden trees are in the northwest area. A black pine and a pyramidal oak define the southern area. Furthermore, the garden of conifers, birches, and rhododendrons, partly also younger stands, is rather loosely structured. Hazelnut bushes have a shielding effect. After 1990 there were changes in the area close to the house. The fence system (galvanized metal construction) was renovated. The generosity of the garden and its connection to the villa via the garden terrace testify to the conception of the modern villa garden of the reform style with features of the transition to modernity. The garden design that is still recognizable has garden historical value. (LfD / 2014, Ragnhild Kober-Carrière) Villa: Corner block, side building attached to the main building, forming a semicircular arch with garages and servants' apartment, villa with hipped roof, shutters, semicircular bay windows with balconies on the upper floor, high-quality construction, client: Arthur Lossow. |

Masonic Lodge and parts of the garden | Egghalde 12 (map) |
probably 1845, later reshaped | Today residential building, of importance in terms of local history, building history and garden history.
Description and justification of the garden monument: At the end of Plantagenstrasse, the large, elongated property was probably created as a villa garden when the building was constructed. The garden is divided into four areas:
In the area close to the house, the traditional woody stock (beech, sycamore maple, magnolia, linden, chestnut, Japanese maple, hazelnut and rhododendron, younger group of conifers) forms a loose frame. The park area adjoining to the northwest has old groups of rhododendrons, a weeping ash, hornbeam, larch, oak, linden, robinia and norway maple. A landscape path system can be assumed in the ground. A viewing hill above the slope of the Gründelteich park, still in the enclosed garden area, forms the end point of the landscaped area. The old woody substance is valuable and shows an interesting system of garden spaces that is impaired by wild growth. Outside the fence is a viewing platform with a view of the Gründelteichinsel. Although this plateau is in the parcel, it is part of the green pond system. The historical value of the garden lies in the basic landscape structure, which can be traced back to a design from the middle of the 19th century and which was supplemented by later ingredients (around 1900). (LfD / 2014, 2017) Building for the Masonic Lodge “For the sisterhood of mankind” structurally changed by Curt Köhler (this successor to the master builder Louis Lein). In the building there was a hall, cloakroom, library and club room, later owner Mrs. Brinkmann. Villa with enclosure on Färberstrasse, gazebo and garden | Färberstrasse 29 (map) |
1912 | Architecturally and locally of importance, home of the dye works owner Bernhard Kuhn.
Former factory owner's villa of the dye works owner and city councilor Bernhard Kuhn with a garden gazebo and enclosure to Färberstrasse as well as the garden as an auxiliary facility. The dye works building erected in 1830/37, which is located on the same property, was not included in the list of monuments due to multiple renovations. The villa, built in reform style, is one of the most representative and artistically most important villa buildings in West Saxony. It was preserved in a very good original condition with high-quality furnishings from the time of construction. The two-storey plastered building, erected over a rectangular floor plan, is characterized by regularly arranged, still original, rectangular windows, some with folding shutters, a central bay window with a balcony above, a circumferential cornice, a three-axis roof bay window and the high hipped mansard roof. The house entrance flanked by columns is on the side. The garden house, which was probably built at the same time as the villa, is located in the front garden area. The small half-timbered building with a gently sloping saddle roof was in a very poor state of construction at the time it was declared a monument in 2011. The garden was preserved as a relic, on the street side it is bordered by a wrought iron fence with stone pillars (one still crowned by a stone ball). As the home of the dye works owner Bernhard Kuhn, who is important for the industrial and local history of the city of Glauchau, the villa gains local and personal historical importance. Due to its high-quality architectural training and the characteristics that are particularly typical for the period of construction, the villa is also gaining importance in terms of architectural history and architecture. (LfD / 2011) Initial "BK" above the entrance door, with hall, rich interior and exterior design, wood paneling, lead glass windows, lantern, fittings, etc., garden shed half-timbered, client: dye works owner Bernh. Kuhn. Park with statue of Neptune and cascade (with memorial column and goddess of victory) | Gründelallee - (map) |
after 1875 | Of importance in terms of garden design and local history, Glauchau's largest park with a rich, old population of trees, laid out as a continuation of the palace park on the initiative of the Beautification Association.
Description and justification of the garden monument: In 1864 the Gründelteich, which had been drained and rebuilt a few years earlier, was fed from the Mühlgraben via a canal. The Beautification Association founded in 1875 (first chairman was lawyer Ernst Friedrich Grimm) organized concerts, the entrance fees for the park were collected. Emil Lossow and Grimm donated solitary trees. The so-called "new systems" were built starting at the exit of the Rothenbacher Valley. In the center of the Gründelparkinsel with its four-pass basic form, the gilded goddess of victory Victoria stands in a circular basin on a 13 meter high column, which ends with a cast iron overflow basin (cascade column). The goddess points to the castle with her right arm. The inscription on the plaque attached to the south side of the column base reads: "In honor of the illustrious counts of SCHOENBURG: GLAUCHAU donated this monument to Heinrich Carl Hedrich in Glauchau in 1884". Another plaque on the north side shows the inscription: "INAUGURATED on August 14, 1884". The water for the cascade was pumped into a basin in Boessneck's garden (Plantagenstrasse 10) and led back down to the cascade. The play lasted 10 minutes. It was only held at certain times. The island can be reached via a wooden bridge (renewed in 1936, renovated after 1990) from the path leading around the pond from the south and had a finely divided path system. The Rochlitz porphyry Neptune figure standing in the water on a plinth was created in 1758 for the market fountain, which was demolished in 1858. At times she was probably on the island. In the north of the pond there is a causeway between the pond and the filled mill moat, the “Gründelallee”, with a few preserved old oaks and linden trees. The Gründelhaus, also known as the Parkschänke, was built in 1924/1925. Before that, there was a jetty with a small building for the gondola. Paths and two lookout points are located on the former steep slope of the Mulde, overgrown with oak and hornbeam, which delimits the riverside path in the south. The park is accessed from the city via a road leading down from Plantagenstrasse. From the same point there is also a path to a viewing platform. In an easterly direction, the park stretches across the plain (Hammerwiese) and on the slope to the grounds at the castle. The Hammerdammweg limits it here in the north. The Gründelpark is closely related to the gardens at the castle and the villa gardens on Plantagenstrasse above the pond. There are road connections to you. Historically, the park bears testimony to the initiatives of the Beautification Association and some personalities for the benefit of the citizens. The specialty of the facility lies in the visual relationships over the water surface. The island with the Hedrichs column forms the main point of reference. The park's pathways and planting are geared towards the spectacle of the water cascade, which is what makes the facility particularly attractive in terms of garden art. (LfD / 2014) History:

1869/1870 | Architecturally and locally of importance, chapel from the period of historicism with remains of the old cemetery gate (Renaissance portal).
With the following individual monuments:
Description and justification of the garden monument: The cemetery is accessed from Lichtensteiner Straße through the cemetery gate, which leads to Kapellenplatz. The gate system is located between the morgue and the administration building and consists of two gate and four fence pillars made of sandstone as well as three wrought-iron fence panels, an access gate and a gate. The cemetery gate, the Franco-German war memorial and the chapel are arranged in one axis. A regular orthogonal path system is divided into a longitudinal axis, ten transverse axes and paths running parallel to the fence. It opens up the 22 quarters lying in two rows. Along the main path, which runs from northwest to southeast, there is an avenue of winter linden trees. Rows of horse chestnuts stand on the inside of the two outer longitudinal paths of the cemetery. The cross paths are made up of avenues made of winter linden trees. The cemetery, laid out in the classic structure in 1869 and expanded to the southeast around 1900, is still dominated by its tall tree alleys and rows. Due to its elevated and open location outside the city, it is visible from afar - especially at the time of the chestnut blossom. From the cemetery there are several views of the neighboring Bismarck Tower. Due to its clear, classic structure, which is enhanced by freely growing tree-lined avenues, it is of garden historical value. Its extensive location on Lichtenfelder Straße has landscape / urban significance. (LfD / 2014, 2017) Some personalities in chapel:

Villa with villa garden and enclosure | Meeraner Strasse 13 (map) |
1899 | In terms of art, garden art, local history and architectural history of importance, upper-class villa with representative furnishings, in the style of historicism, inside good stock, characterized by historicist and Art Nouveau views, park of the villa garden monument of high rank.
Description and justification of the garden monument: The representative villa garden, which was laid out in a landscape style at the end of the 19th century, includes a generous driveway in the north-west of the villa, the area close to the house with three open parking spaces in the north-east, south-east and south-west of the villa, and the extensive south-west with a rich tree population Park area with pond, landscaped path system, viewing hills and seating. The fence system made of metal construction with iron pillars and massive clinker pillars and the gate system with four high pillars, gate and two gates ends in the southeast with a section of wall. There is a raised seat on the garden side, a so-called curiosity. The villa, which is set back in the garden, is accessed via the straight driveway with a semicircular driveway (water-bound path cover) and an access path with burned, colored pavement stones. Beeches, oaks and linden trees surround the driveway and have a framing effect with other tall linden and chestnut trees near the villa. From the paths in the periphery of the villa's open parking spaces, the view is therefore directed to different parts of the villa's facade, which are thus particularly emphasized. From the villa, the structure of the edges of the open parking spaces can be seen in a similarly interesting way. Deciduous and coniferous trees create a border situation that is varied in structure, color and shape of the park area, which extends further into the southwest area and is more shaded by trees. A pond and a viewing hill form another open parking space in this area. The variety of trees and the multitude of park images within the landscaped park and in relation to the villa make up the artistic value of the villa garden. Due to the death of some old trees and wild growth, these are endangered and impaired. The occasional apparently undertaken planting of several trees of the same species in one planting hole is interesting. The park of the villa belongs to the phase of the mature landscaped gardens of the late 19th century and is of particular value in terms of garden history and garden art. (LfD / 2014 Ragnhild Kober-Carrière) Generous former factory owner's villa, clinker brick construction, remains of the park preserved, fence and fence posts with garden gate, tower, further development in the park, formerly Villa Fabrikant Berger, typical historicist building, inside good stock, characterized by historicist and Art Nouveau concepts, park laid out at the same time as the villa , Garden monument of high standing, winding paths, groups of trees and open spaces, easily recognizable despite years of neglect (villa garden partly built over with new houses, address: Schindmaaser Weg 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, Flstk. 3222/5, 3222/6, 3222/7, 3222/8, 3222/9, 3222/10, 3222/11, 3222/12 and 3222/13 - no longer part of the garden monument). |

Villa with enclosure and garden | Plantagenstrasse 2 (map) |
1885-1886 | Architecturally and artistically of importance, representative building in the style of historicism, facade with Palladio motif.
Description and justification of the garden monument: The formerly large villa garden was built over with residential buildings in 1994–1999. Part of the garden has been preserved near the villa. Deciduous trees and conifers frame the facade of the villa and, when viewed from the street, highlight parts of the building. Two black pines, three field maples, a pyramid poplar, two linden trees and large groups of rhododendrons deserve special mention. The fence system has been preserved with a sandstone base, sandstone pillars and fence panels made of metal construction. The villa is the prelude to the villa district on Plantagenstrasse above the Gründelteich pond, which was developed in the second half of the 19th century. The areas of the villa gardens facing the traffic areas shape the street scene. Their mature, old stock of trees forms a varied overall picture with the richly structured facades of the villas and interesting fencing systems. The representative front gardens, once adorned with flower beds, played an important role. Today the special value lies in the preserved woody stock. The garden preserved near the villa, as a remnant of the former large villa garden, has a street-defining value with its old wooded area framing the villa and the fence system. (LfD / 2014 Ragnhild Kober-Carrière) Plaster use on the ground floor, protruding roof, central projectile, window canopies, on the ground floor with two verandas, client: Bössneck. |

Villa with enclosure and garden | Plantagenstrasse 3 (map) |
1887 | Architecturally, historically and artistically of importance, splendid Wilhelminian style upper-class villa, in the style of the neo-Renaissance.
Description and justification of the garden monument: The relatively small villa garden has well-preserved trees. The trees on the street side of the corner property, framing and at the same time shielding the villa, are a beech, a weeping beech, a pine, a chestnut, two larches, rhododendrons and some hazelnut bushes. Conifers (blue spruce, black pines, white pine, yew trees) and rhododendrons structure the garden to the south-east of the villa, some of which has a landscaped soil model and remains of a system of paths. The garden is impaired by the classification of parking spaces. The fence system with sandstone plinth, profiled sandstone pillars, cast-iron intermediate pillars and a bar lattice fence has been preserved on Plantagenstrasse. The remains of a gate are in the corner of the property. There is a picket fence on the side street. The structure of the small urban villa garden has largely been preserved. The two corner plots number 3 and 7 on Plantagenstrasse are similarly laid out. This garden shows the characteristics of a small urban villa garden with a representative claim that was emerging at the end of the 19th century. It is therefore important in terms of garden history. (LfD / 2014 Ragnhild Kober-Carrière) Villa: mixed construction, ground floor plastering with corner blocks, upper floor partly red brick, front door, original window, staircase window lead glass, bay window, roofed balcony upper floor, two colored glass windows, wrought iron railing to bay window, diamond cuboid, client: Kaufmann Bössneck. |

Villa with garden (remains of the wooded area) | Plantagenstrasse 5 (map) |
around 1885 | Representative building from the Wilhelminian era, of architectural significance.
Description and justification of remnants of the villa garden that are worth protecting: In the course of the development of Plantagenstrasse, this corner property was developed, developed and laid out at the end of the 19th century. Remnants of the trees that characterize the street and frame the villa (two black pines, beeches, rhododendrons) have been preserved. Today it represents the traditional value of the newly designed garden, which was used as a play area for a kindergarten in the villa and had already been changed. According to the owner, the fence system was rebuilt based on the fence on property number 3. Villa with enclosure, garden and outbuildings | Plantagenstrasse 6 (map) |
around 1860 (villa) | Architecturally of importance, from the Gründerzeit plastered facade with a central projection, wrought iron fence with Art Nouveau ornamentation.
Description and justification of the garden monument: This villa, which was the first to be built on Plantagenstrasse with numbers 4 and 8, has an elongated plot of land that extends to the Gründelteich complex. The rear garden was built over after 1990. The relatively large front garden has been preserved with its traditional woody stock (five linden trees, one ash and rhododendrons). A solitary tree (plane tree) stands in the north-west of the villa. The fence system, which has design elements from the turn of the century, extends to plot number 10. It consists of a solid base and pillars raised to the pillars and elaborately designed wrought iron fence panels. At number 6 the gate is missing. The fence system and the traditional woody stock are characteristic of the street. (LfD / 2014 Ragnhild Kober-Carrière). Enclosure - around 1905 - wrought iron fence with Art Nouveau ornamentation, stone on the gate and on fence posts, large balcony on the central projection for reindeer Joh. Heinr. Panzner, outbuilding - former horse stable with wagon shed. |

Rental villa with enclosure and garden | Plantagenstrasse 7 (map) |
1893 | Architecturally and artistically of importance, Wilhelminian style building with half-timbered gable.
Description and justification of the garden monument: The garden laid out with the villa is a typical urban villa garden on a small plot of land at the end of the 19th century. Landscaped paths swing over a slightly modeled floor relief and connect to the entrances to the building. A group of conifers that characterize the garden with three black pines, four white pines, yew trees, arborvitae and false cypress has been planted on a small hill in the corner furthest from the house. There you are led through a slightly modeled depression running along the longest property line. A beech and a linden frame the facade of the house facing the Plantagenstrasse. In a loose position, ornamental shrubs and fruit trees form smaller, interlocking garden spaces. The lattice bar fence on Plantagenstrasse has been renovated with the base and pillars, the gate and gate are on the corner of Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse. A Norway maple, two hornbeams and an oak stand on the property boundaries to the neighbors and give the garden a larger frame. There is a lawn in the SE of the villa. There is a wooden fence on Friedrich-Ebert-Straße. The described fine design of the garden represents its artistic garden value. (LfD / 2014 Ragnhild Kober-Carrière) Corner blocks, half-timbered gable, bay window with balcony, client: Gustav Schedlich. |

Villa with enclosure, garden with stone bench (seating area), back building (riding hall) and porter's house | Plantagenstrasse 8 (map) |
1859 | Architecturally, historically, artistically and artistically of importance, historicist (Wilhelminian) plastered facade with central projection and balcony, in the style of the neo-renaissance, still influenced by classicism, back building in half-timbered construction, gatehouse in the style of English country houses, wrought-iron enclosure with Art Nouveau ornamentation.
Description and justification of the garden monument: First installation of the villa garden probably with the construction of the villa in 1859, under the new owner (Otto Boessneck) Changes probably around 1884 in the course of the construction of the neighboring villa and the construction of a pond there. The Boessneck garden (number 10, pond) is connected to the fountain system (water supply) of the Hedrichsäule (1884) on the Gründelteichinsel below these gardens. Apparently common greenhouse on the property boundary of number 8 and number 10, which can be verified in 1894 (topographical map) and was expanded in 1911 (building file) by the architect Reinhold Ulrich and of which remains are available today. It can be assumed that gardens number 8 and number 10 were connected. Fence system (number 6, 8 and 10) connected with a solid base and wrought-iron fence panels (gates and wickets are missing) from around 1900. The garden borders on the slope of the Gründelpark. In a short section of the wall there is a gate with a round arch. Near the house, park-like design with valuable woodland and bank space as a small architecture, in the back garden remains of an orchard and riding arena (later converted for two apartments, vacant). The villa is currently vacant and the garden is overgrown. Valuable in terms of horticultural history due to the initial construction in 1859 by the client Ganzenberg, Ch. AB, art gardener, in terms of garden art in the second design phase and in connection with the gardens of number 10. (LfD / 2014 Ragnhild Kober-Carrière).

The Muldentalbahn as a whole with individual monuments and parts of the whole in the following subsections | Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse (map) |
1873–1877 (entire route) | Material entity with all railway systems, including track systems with substructure and superstructure, route kilometers, telecommunication and signal systems, railway stations including all functional buildings, guard houses, bridges and culverts in the communities of Glauchau, city (OT Glauchau, Kleinbernsdorf, Reinholdshain, Niederlungwitz), and so on , see below!
For the industrial development of the Mulde valley, important and landscape-forming standard-gauge railway, important in terms of economic history, railway history, landscape design and regional history. The originally two-track railway line Glauchau – Wurzen (route abbreviation GW), which was around 82 km long, was built between 1873 and 1877 by the "Muldenthal Railway Company Glauchau – Wurzen" as the main line. The aim was to establish a connection between the industrial settlements in the valley of the Zwickauer Mulde and the south-west Saxon region with the trade centers of Leipzig and Berlin (Prussia) in the north and thus to contribute to the region's economic upturn. Important goods were Rochlitz porphyry, porcelain from Colditz, paper and cardboard from Penig and Rochsburg, yarn from America, and coal from the Zwickau district, which were to be transported north via Glauchau. From 1944 onwards, products from the metalworking and later armaments company HASAG (Hugo and Alfred Schneider AG) were also transported over this route from Colditz. The scenic and difficult terrain required 71 bridge structures of various sizes, ten road and water overpasses, dams with a total length of 29 km, various retaining and lining walls and additional farm roads and a tunnel. The construction of the Rochsburg Tunnel in 1878 finally exceeded the company's financial resources and forced the company to sell the route, including the vehicles, to the Royal Saxon State Railways for 13 million marks. The sale and integration into the route network of the Royal Saxon State Railways in turn resulted in structural changes to the route in the 1880s. The Wurzener Nordbahnhof, which had previously been used as the terminus, was closed and the Südbahnhof established as the end of the line. Until 1945 the line had the status of a main line. In the last days of the war, members of the Volkssturm blew up the Rabenstein Bridge near Grimma to stop the advance of the American troops and thus divided the route into two sections. The Soviet military administration ordered the dismantling of the superstructure of the northern part of the line between Großbothen and Grimma as a reparation payment. In the following years the Deutsche Reichsbahn tried to repair the line again, but gradually stopped passenger transport from 1967. The railway systems in the southern section between Glauchau and Großbothen were largely preserved in their original form. Mainly the route is used for the delivery and removal of the products of the neighboring large companies and as a means of transport for the workers in the densely populated valley. After the political change and the associated closure of the adjacent businesses, freight traffic gradually came to a standstill. In the mid-1990s this was discontinued entirely. Around the turn of the millennium, the communities in the northern part decided to convert the route into the Muldentalbahnradweg, the southern route should continue to be used as a tourist attraction. However, the closure of route branches and speed limits as well as unattractive timetables in the 1990s led to further restrictions on train traffic and ultimately to its complete cessation. A dismantling of the superstructure and substructure and the technical facilities at the stations (especially Rochlitz, Penig and Wechselburg) did not take place, so that these have been almost completely preserved to this day. The so-called Muldentalbahn is one of the few Saxon standard-gauge railways that has extensive technical equipment. In the years that followed, Deutsche Bahn AG leased the line to the regional train, which allowed it to be used by the Central Saxony Transport Association. He used express buses to replace rails to establish a connection between Rochlitz and Geithain and thus to a national network. In the years 2000/01, bus traffic was finally also discontinued and passenger traffic along the route was discontinued. An association is currently using the almost completely preserved superstructure and substructure of sections of the route for trolley trips. The Muldentalbahn as a whole extends over the Glauchau – Großbothen section, which has a high level of documentation, experience and visual value due to its traditional (technical) equipment. The route is particularly suitable for exemplifying the history of the Saxon railway system. The standard gauge railway technology preserved to this extent is a rarity in Saxony. Experienced Italian construction workers who were recruited for the construction of the line were able to embed the railway line in an excellent way in the beautiful and challenging terrain of the Zwickauer Mulde with the help of bridges, dams and the tunnel in Rochsburg. It is thus of a character that shapes the landscape, but without damaging the valley landscape. The construction of the line enabled the economic growth of industrial companies and thus the entire region. The route therefore also has economic and historical importance. Scheermühlenstrasse 5 (map) |
1870–1880 (stock) | Significant testimonials from the history of traffic in West Saxony, all processes related to the steam locomotive operation are still comprehensible and are of technical significance.
The former Glauchau depot, located at the junction of the Dresden – Hof, Glauchau – Weimar and Glauchau – Großbothen lines, is a typical facility of that time and was completely rebuilt when the Glauchau station was redesigned. Listed locomotives BR 58047, 501849, 581955, 242001, N4b, standard tank locomotive 86744.
Construction and technology of the snow blower RR 3000: The RR 3000 snow blower is designed as a heavy snow blower (SSF) for clearing snow on routes and station tracks with snow depths of up to 3.20 m. The milling machine is a standard vehicle with special operational treatment in accordance with the service regulation for vehicles and devices with special operational treatment (DV 431). It is provided with its own drive system and with a standard pulling and pushing device on one side. The SSF essentially consists of * a two-axle diesel traction vehicle with
Snow cutter blower and the combined driving and operator cabin are mounted with their frame so that they can be hydraulically raised and lowered. The snow can be thrown to the right or left up to a distance of 40 meters. The side wings can be individually folded out hydraulically. The wedge plow at the rear can be raised and lowered hydraulically. A lifting and turning device under the vehicle enables the SSF to be turned on the spot. Technical specifications:
Small train diesel locomotive N4b: (Property of the Limbach-Oberfrohnaer Eisenbahnverein e.V., status May 2007) Year of construction 1956, manufacturer VEB Lokomotivbau Karl Marx Babelsberg, type N4b, six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine, weight 17t, power 90 PS, Vmax: 30km / h, serial number 251130, mechanical four-speed gearbox, compressed air brakes, two-axis, driven by two rods on both sides, locations: 1956 Cottbus coal store, 1983 Magdeburg area, 1984 acquisition by the Penig paper mill, 1984 use in the Wolkenburg plant section, since 2004 owned by the Limbach-Oberfrohnaer Eisenbahnverein, Glauchau railway depot, 1984 general inspection in Tharandt repairs, 1991 general inspection Raw Chemnitz, 1992 brake inspection, 2004 / 2005 engine revised, Standard tank locomotive 86 744: Rollable and completely preserved standard freight train tender locomotive of the Deutsche Reichsbahn, built in 1942 by the company Orenstein & Koppel Berlin with the factory number 13759, used on branch lines at various railway depots, first in Waren / Müritz, between 1949 and 1991 primarily in coal mining in today's Saxon area, from 1991 museum railway in Minden, since 2017 in the Glauchau depot, one of two still functional locomotives of this series, of significance in terms of railway history and technology history. When it was built in 1942, it was already subject to the specifications of the Main Committee for Rail Vehicles. Locomotives from this period were equipped with standardized components and fittings that were marked accordingly. The locomotive under consideration here has the additional abbreviation K44 in the cylinder block. The K stands for war engine. Nevertheless, it is driven by a superheated steam engine and not, according to the specification, by a wet steam engine. The latter was more economical in consumption and less maintenance-dependent. This locomotive also has a higher serial number. The historical classification of the locomotive as well as its integration into an existing collection justifies a public interest in its maintenance and use as a testimony to the development of rail traffic on branch lines. In addition, there are scientific reasons because only two examples of this series, typical of the time, have survived. - Rarity. |

Villa with fence, gate and villa garden | Ulmenstrasse 5 (map) |
(LfD / 2017) Villa:
Enclosure:
Parts of the enclosure are located on the properties Ulmenstrasse 5a (Flrst. 767/1) and Am Bürgerheim 4 (Flrst. 767/3, 785/9, 785/11). Villa garden:

Hospital (house 1) and hospital garden with basin | Virchowstrasse 18 (map) |
1914 | Significant in terms of building history, local history and garden design, representative building in the reform style of the time around 1910 with neo-baroque echoes, architect: Reinhold Ulrich.
Description and justification of the garden monument: The terraced and very representative complex, which was probably laid out at the same time as the hospital, is located in front of the southwest side of the building, can be divided into the following parts:
The axially emphasized design of the system corresponding to the building should be emphasized. A special view opens up from the balcony in front of the building, which also covers the driveway. The plane trees frame the view of the water basin and the lawns to the right and left of it. In the background of the water surface, a row of trees made of pyramid poplars forms an optical conclusion. Behind it is a varied wooded backdrop, which is composed of different deciduous trees (linden, chestnut, hazelnut, lilac, rhododendron) and conifers (blue spruce, white pine, black pine, yew) and is a later addition. The complex corresponding to the monumental building is assigned to the neo-baroque garden style of the reform period and forms a design unit with the building. It has artistic garden value in the skillful use of the site and the representative structure as well as structural and plant furnishings. (LfD / 2014, 2017) Hospital: neo-baroque, outside staircase, plastic jewelry, balcony. Hospital garden: probably designed in connection with the construction of the hospital (basin can be found on the measuring table from 1916). Garden parts:
Visual relationship: From the entrance of the hospital building along the central axis with the basin to the southwest. Disturbing elements: The historical woody stock was supplemented by younger conifer plantations. |

Villa with enclosure, garden pavilion and garden | Wettiner Strasse 9 (map) |
1899 | Significant in terms of town planning, local history, architectural history and garden history, historic villa construction with corner tower, the property belonged to the well-known Glauchau master builder Reinhold Ulrich.
Description and justification of the garden monument: The house has two entrances, one on the southwest facade and one on the northwest facade. Both entrances are accessed from Wettiner Straße via two separate gates. Another entrance to the property is at the rear, northeast property line. The access road (water-bound path cover) to an auxiliary building with a courtyard at the rear of the property is located on the south-east border and is separated from the garden by a half-height wall that bends twice. In this wall there is another gate to the garden. The property is divided into the aforementioned driveway with a courtyard area of the outbuilding, a front garden on Wettiner Straße, a rectangular raised space (so-called curiosity) on the street corner, an entrance area on the northwest facade with a linden tree from what were formerly two flanking linden trees and the rear relatively small garden. The aforementioned linden tree and another at the driveway frame the corner villa. Two oaks and a linden tree stand in the garden by the aforementioned wall and shield the outbuilding. A black pine stands in the north corner of the garden, lilacs and hazelnuts on the north-west border. The edges of the paths near the house have been preserved, possibly also those of the heavily overgrown garden. The house has been empty for several years. An octagonal wooden pavilion is located in the rear garden area. The house opens to the northeast and southeast via bay windows, veranda, balcony and terrace. The enclosure is elaborately designed with a porphyry base and pillars made of plastered masonry with a sandstone cover. Fence panels made of wood as well as gate and door leaves have been replaced. The pillars of the gate at the entrance have a superstructure with an oval opening. The enclosure has partly retaining walls and short wall sections. The access staircase with 13 granite steps on the south corner of the house is provided with a stepped cheek and laterally bordered by a wall with pillars (fence panels are missing) to the front garden. The house, outbuildings, fencing and garden form an architectural unit in terms of function and design and are a masterpiece of the Ulrich family of architects who once lived and worked in the villa. The garden is particularly characterized by its architectural borders. It thus bears design elements of a small architectural villa garden from the late 19th century and is of interest in terms of building and gardening history. (LfD / 2014 Ragnhild Kober-Carrière) The property belonged to the well-known Glauchau master builder Reinhold Ulrich, next to the house was the building yard with a wooden shed, the owner and builder of the house was Julius Ulrich, master builder. |
