List of sculptures at the Palais in the Great Garden
The list of sculptures at the Palais in the Great Garden gives an overview of the sculptures and busts at the Palais in the Great Garden , a cultural monument in the Saxon capital of Dresden. The palace was built from 1678 to 1683 under the direction of the chief architect Johann Georg Starcke and his superior Wolf Caspar von Klengel as a pleasure palace for the Saxon dynasty, the Wettins . Later it was used as the museum of the Royal Saxon Antiquities Association. The building is divided into a ground floor, a main floor and a mezzanine above.
The facades are richly decorated with plastic jewelry. Sculptures of the four seasons are arranged above the triangular or segmented gables. The other sculptures mainly deal with ancient themes and personalities. Larger-than-life sandstone sculptures on the judgment of Paris and other mythological subjects are located in several niches on the ground floor and main floor. In the niches of the mezzanine floor there are busts of twelve Roman emperors (Caesars) and four empresses, who are attributed to Jeremias Sussner , below each of which are the keystone heads above the portals, which were probably created by George Heermann .
In addition to George Heermann , who has just returned from Italy, the brothers Jeremias and Conrad Max Süßner , Abraham Conrad Buchau and Marcus Conrad Dietze were involved in decorating the facade .
