City districts and quarters
The following areas are not independent city districts, but are sometimes perceived as such by the residents:
- The Kronsbergsiedlung in Bemerode was newly created for Expo 2000 . Because of its own structure and development history, it looks like a separate district.
- Klein-Buchholz was a separate district until the city districts were created in 1981. This was dissolved and assigned to the neighboring districts of Bothfeld , List and Groß-Buchholz .
- The Roderbruch in Groß-Buchholz was built in the 1970s as a large housing estate .
In some districts there are districts or quarters that stand out from their surroundings thanks to their uniform structure and their own name:
- The Kreuzkirchenviertel in the old town in the Mitte district was built in 1949–1951 on the site of the houses between Marstall, Burgstrasse, Ballhof and Bonehauerstrasse that were destroyed in the war .
- The Warmbüchenviertel in the Mitte district is named after the streets Warmbüchenstrasse and Warmbüchenkamp that run through the district .
- Körtingsdorf in Badenstedt is a workers' settlement of the Körting brothers that was built at the end of the 19th century .
- The grass roof settlement in Bothfeld was built in the 1980s. The single-family row houses were built according to ecological criteria and are equipped with a grass roof .
- The Döhrener Jammer in Döhren is a historic workers' settlement.
- The bird settlement in Groß-Buchholz is a single-family housing estate between Osterfelddamm and the Mittelland Canal . The streets are named after their bird species.
- The garden city in Kleefeld emerged at the end of the 1920s between Kirchröder Strasse and the railway .
- The Philosophenviertel in Kleefeld is located between Eilenriede and Kirchröder Straße. The name results from the streets named after philosophers. The quarter, which was built at the beginning of the 20th century, is characterized by high-quality single-family houses and city villas (e.g. Villa Effertz ).
- The Gilde-Carré in Linden-Mitte is a row house district that was built on the site of the former Lindener Aktien-Brauerei .
- The Ahrbergviertel in Linden-Süd was built on the site of the former Fritz Ahrberg sausage factory . It is characterized by a high proportion of Spaniards, which is also reflected in the official street naming (for example Plaza de Rosalia ).
- The pelican district in the List was created on the site of the former pelican factory .
- The Black Heath is a settlement area with around 1,300 inhabitants in Stöcken .
The Aegidienneustadt and the Ernst-August-Stadt , which emerged from early city expansion, are no longer recognizable as delimitable city districts and are no longer designated as such.
