Pelican district
The Pelikanviertel is located in the Hanover district of List between the Eilenriede and the Mittelland Canal on Podbielskistraße .
description
The Pelikanviertel emerged from the former factory premises of the Pelikan company . In 1906 the company moved into the office and production space in the village of Klein-Buchholz , which at that time was up to four borders . In the years that followed, the factory area was expanded and the largest reinforced concrete building in Germany was built on the site .
In 1991 the former company premises were sold. During the subsequent revitalization , the historic buildings were refurbished and the existing areas were supplemented by new buildings. In 1993 the new city quarter was completed. Today the quarter is characterized by a combination of offices, shops, restaurants, apartments and hotels. The quarter is an example of the transformation of a historic industrial site into a modern residential and work area. The mixture of old, traditional and listed buildings as well as newly built, modern objects gave the Pelikanviertel several architecture prizes. A similar example in Hanover is the Ahrbergviertel on the former premises of the Fritz Ahrberg sausage factory in the Linden-Süd district .
