List of Vice Presidents of the EU Commission
The office of Vice President of the EU Commission is less important than the office of EU Commission President . In contrast to the President of the EU Commission, the Vice President has his own department in addition to this task.
The actual tasks of a Vice President, representing the President, are performed by the First Vice President. In the previous Juncker Commission , this was Frans Timmermans .
The fact that a Vice-President takes over his duties in the absence of a President happened in 1999 when Manuel Marin resigned the Santer Commission . Marin was then commissioned to form a new commission, which would remain in office until the Prodi commission took office.
