After the Romanesque church, which had existed since around 1200, was destroyed by the Hungarians, a new church in Gothic style was built from 1418. A major fire in 1682, in which the church building was badly damaged, required it to be rebuilt in its current form and interior in the following years, and the church tower was completed in 1690. The cemetery was moved away from the church to its current location in 1863.
