from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of the world's best-selling music albums includes music albums with at least 40 million copies sold. The list contains all types of music albums such as studio albums, compilations, or soundtracks. The information includes unused albums that have been resold.

Due to the methodology of the RIAA record awarding organization , each CD is counted individually for awards for albums with several CDs and a total running time of over 100 minutes. Well-known examples of exceptions to this rule are Pink Floyd 's The Wall and The Beatles ' The Beatles .

Michael Jackson's Thriller is the best-selling album to date and has sold 66 million copies worldwide. With five albums in the list of the world's 100 best-selling albums, Jackson also holds the record for most bestsellers. The Beatles , Madonna and Celine Dion follow with three albums each.
