The list of Lower Sorbian personalities contains people who are of Lower Sorbian / Wendish origin and who have earned special recognition through their work.

Personalities

15th century

  • Jan Rak (Johannes Aesticampius, 1457–1520), theologian, scholar and humanist
  • Jan Brězan (Johann Briesmann, 1488–1549), Lutheran reformer in Prussia and the Baltic States
  • Mikławš Jakubica († around 1548), made the first translation of the New Testament into Lower Sorbian.

16th Century

  • Jakub Janus (Jakob Janus, 1530–1583), Protestant pastor and author of theological writings in Latin
  • Albin Moller (1541–1618), Protestant pastor, translated Luther's catechism and songs into the Lower Sorbian language
  • Abraham Škoda (Abraham Schade, around 1550–1624), cantor and editor of an important anthology of motets
  • Handroš Tara (Andreas Thar, around 1570 – around 1638), Protestant pastor, translated Luther's catechism, psalms and prayers, wrote other texts
  • Jan Krygaŕ (Johann Crüger, 1598–1662), composer

17th century

  • Jan Chojnan (Johannes Choinan, 1616–1664), Protestant pastor, wrote the first Lower Sorbian grammar
  • Juro Krygaŕ (Georg Krüger, 1642 / 43–1707), astronomer, pastor and calendar maker in Courland

18th century

  • Pomgajbog Kristalub Fryco (Gotthelf Christlieb Fritze, 1744–1815), Protestant pastor and author of theological writings
  • Jan Bjedrich Fryco (Johann Friedrich Fritze, 1747–1819), Protestant pastor and writer
  • Jan Zygmunt Bjedrich Šyndlaŕ (Johann Sigismund Friedrich Schindler, 1758–1841), Protestant pastor, wrote a dictionary and Old and New Testament in Lower Sorbian
  • Jan Juro Swora (Johannes Georg Zwahr, 1785–1844), Protestant pastor and author of the first Lower Sorbian-German dictionary
  • Kito Fryco Stempel (1787–1867), Protestant pastor and founder of modern Lower Sorbian literature
