Alphabetical listing of the technical terms used in roller coasters . In some cases, product names from roller coaster manufacturers are also listed here if the terms have established themselves as a general name or are often confused.

Since there are no adequate German-language terms for many things, English expressions are mostly used.

  • Banking - slope of the rail in curves
  • Batwing - Inversion, consisting of a reverse sidewinder with a subsequent sidewinder ; Entry and exit are in opposite directions, so that a change in direction of 180 ° occurs

  • Giga-Coaster - Intamin's product name for roller coasters with a height of more than 92 meters (300 feet)

  • Suspended coaster - see suspended coaster , sometimes referred to as German term for inverted coaster used
  • Head chopper - (English for "head chopper") element above the route that comes very close to the heads of the passengers
  • Heartline Roll - Inversion, in which the passengers are rotated around the heart line
  • Helix - element that consists of an upward or downward curve of different lengths
  • Heart line - rotation of the splint not around the splint center, but approximately at the height of the heart
  • Wooden roller coaster - roller coaster whose tracks and often also exist wooden structure
  • Horseshoe - element that resembles a horseshoe
  • Hydraulic Launch - a launch technique that uses hydraulics
  • Hyper Coaster - roller coaster of great height, usually more than 60 meters (200 feet)

  • Mouse curve - tight curve without cross slope
  • Mega Coaster - roller coaster, between 50 and 70 m high, originally a product name of the companies Intamin and Bolliger & Mabillard, has also been adopted as a name for other large systems

  • Mine roller coaster - roller coaster type with theming as a mine, often in connection with the theme "Wild West"

  • Racing roller coaster - system in which the vehicles deliver a race on several tracks
  • Reverse Freefall Coaster - roller coaster model from the manufacturer Intamin , for an example see Superman: Escape from Krypton
  • Reverse Sidewinder - Inversion, consisting of half a corkscrew followed by a half loop
  • Ride Operator - operators of a roller coaster
  • Rocket Coaster - name of a type whose train is accelerated horizontally hydraulically, see Launched Coaster
  • Roll-over - looping in which a complete roll is inserted at the top
  • Rollback - rolling back the train
  • Roll - Inversion, in which the train is rotated around an imaginary axis that is horizontal and oriented in the direction of travel
  • Roll-back protection - Prevents the train from unintentionally rolling back if the lift drive fails

  • Top-Hat - hills with a vertical rise and fall
  • Transfer Track - part of the rail that can be moved; mainly to get trains from the siding onto the line
  • Trimbrake - brake on the track to reduce the speed of the train slightly
  • Lift drum - lifthill , in which the conveyed train of a central rotating carrier on a helix upwards
