List of parks in Amsterdam

This article covers a relatively complete list of the parks in the Dutch city of Amsterdam .

Main parks

Vondelpark

The largest and most visited park in the city is the Vondelpark . It is located near Marnixplein and is named after Joost van den Vondel , a 17th century Amsterdam writer.

Beatrix Park

The Beatrixpark is named after Queen Beatrix .

Sarphatipark

The Sarphatipark is located in the Amsterdam Oud-Zuid district . It is named after Samuel Sarphati. Since Sarphati was Jewish, the park was named "Bollandpark" by the German occupiers between 1942 and 1945 after GJPJ Bolland .

Oosterpark

The Oosterpark is located in the Oost district. It is the first large park created by the city of Amsterdam. It is an English garden and was designed by the Dutch landscape architect Leonard Anthony Springer and laid out in 1891.

Frankendael Park

The Frankendael Park is located east of the Middenweg south of the Oosterpark.

Rembrandt Park

The Rembrandtpark is located northwest of the Vondelpark.

Westerpark

The Westerpark is located in the Westerpark district . It is located at the former Westergasfabriek gasworks on Haarlemmerweg.

Flevopark

The Flevopark is located east of the center in the Indian Buurt . It includes large lawns, walking paths, a playground, a youth center called Jeugdland, a swimming pool and other facilities.

Amsterdamse Bos

The Amsterdamse Bos is located between Amsterdam and Amstelveen . This park is about three times larger than New York's Central Park .

Amstelpark

The Amstelpark is located in the Amsterdam-Zuid district and houses the Rieker windmill, built in 1636.

Hortus Botanicus

Hortus Botanicus was founded in 1638 and is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It is located in the plantation birth and is a major tourist attraction.
