List of the longest shooting ranges for snipers to kill

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of farthest sniper shooting ranges for killing people includes the farthest confirmed and published sniper shooting ranges for killing people. These have been documented and partially published since the late 1960s, initially by the US military and now by various armed forces.

history

Since the 18th century, foresters and hunters with rifled rifles were recruited and used as snipers. Hunting weapons with telescopic sights have been used since the First World War to increase range and accuracy. The aim was to reach combat distances of up to 400 meters and to destroy high-quality targets from cover or, for example, to kill recognizable officers . Until the end of the Second World War , snipers were not trained specially or even uniformly. It was only after the Second World War that various armed forces began to create sniper schools and training. The combat distances of today's snipers are usually between 600 and 800 meters. A significantly higher range is now technically possible and depending on the weapon , ammunition and weather used . Fatal hits over distances of several kilometers have already been documented, and a maximum of 3,540 meters has been officially confirmed. Various requirements are placed on the confirmation of hits, for example in the Vietnam War the US military needed an officer in addition to the observer (spotter) to confirm a hit.
