Liza Minnelli is the fourth studio album by Liza Minnelli . It was recorded in Los Angeles from October to December 1967 and was released in the summer of 1968. All songs are included in their entirety on the compilation The Complete A&M Recordings (2008).
In 1967 Minnelli was signed to A&M Records . With the first studio album named after her, she expanded her repertoire to include contemporary pop songs such as the title song Look of Love written by Burt Bacharach for the movie Casino Royale , the Beatles song For No One and Sonny Bono's You'd , in line with the current requirements of the music industry Better sit down, kids . Also with (The Tragedy of) Butterfly McHeart a song penned by her former husband Peter Allen included on the album. Minnelli also recorded a few stage standards, here for example My Mammy , an old signature song by her mother Judy Garland . With Married and Happy Time , two songs by the musical duo Kander / Ebb also flowed into the arrangements, for which Peter Matz , Nick DeCaro, Bob Thompson and J. Hill were responsible.
The critic JT Griffith describes the album Liza Minnelli as a dynamic and successful compilation of many singer-songwriter hits with classic Broadway numbers. The Hi-Fi / Stereo Review Magazine has named it the "Best Album of the Year".
