Longforgan is a Scottish town in the Council Area Perth and Kinross . It is located in the southeast of the traditional county of Perthshire around nine kilometers east of central Dundee . Located on a slight hill, Longforgan offers a view over the Carse of Gowrie plain to the north coast of the Firth of Tay, two kilometers southeast .

history

Longforgan was apanage of the nearby Castle Huntly and developed in connection with the castle. In 1672 the village received the rights of a Burgh of Barony , as evidenced by the market cross of Longforgan . Rosamunde Pilcher lived in Longforgan for many years and died there too.

Between 1831 and 1891, Longforgan's population fell from 451 to 318. While 506 people lived in the village in 1961, the 2011 census survey counted 937 inhabitants.

Longforgan lies directly on the from Edinburgh to Fraserburgh leading A90 . In nearby Dundee, the A85 ( Oban - Dundee), the A92 ( Dunfermline - Stonehaven ) and the A923 (Dundee - Dunkeld ) can be reached within a few kilometers. Dundee Regional Airport is six kilometers to the east.

1847 Longforgan received a southern train station along the Dundee and Perth Railway . While the line continues to operate, the station was closed in 1956.
