Look What the Cat Dragged In is the debut album by the American glam metal band Poison .

Emergence

Poison was founded in Harrisburg , Pennsylvania in 1983 under the name Paris. In addition to singer Bret Michaels , the band consisted of drummer Rikki Rockett, bassist Bobby Dall and guitarist Matt Smith. The band moved to Los Angeles and produced a demo tape for Atlantic Records after being renamed Poison , but could not convince the record company. Matt Smith left the band when his girlfriend was expecting a child and was replaced by CC DeVille .

In 1986 a self-financed album was created under the direction of producer Rik Browde, with Michael Wagener responsible for the sound mix . Following accompanied Poison as the opening act the tours of Quiet Riot , Loudness , Cheap Trick and Ratt .

For the record cover , the band used women's magazines such as Vogue , Elle and Cosmopolitan to explain to their photographer at the time what they wanted to look like; as a result, as her photographer at the time explains, "there were guys on the [Sunset] Strip who wanted to fuck Poison's slugs."
