Loren Dykes MBE (born February 5, 1988 in Morriston ) is a Welsh national football player who has been under contract with Bristol City since 2008.

Career

Dykes began playing soccer as a student at Pontardawe Town, then played at Llanelli Reds and UWIC. From 2006 to 2008 she played for Cardiff City LFC in the English FA Women's Premier League . As Welsh Cup winners, the team took part in qualifying for the 2007/08 UEFA Women's Cup , but could not win a game at a tournament in Croatia in August 2007 and were eliminated with three defeats. She has been playing in Bristol since 2008, initially for the Bristol Academy WFC in the FA Women's Premier League and from 2011 in the FA Women's Super League . The club was later renamed Bristol City. With Bristol she took part in the UEFA Women's Champions League 2011/12 where they failed in the round of 32 against Energija Voronezh . As runners-up in the FA Women's Super League 2013 they qualified for the 2014/15 UEFA Women's Champions League , where they were only eliminated in the quarter-finals after two major defeats (0: 5 and 0: 7) against eventual winners 1. FFC Frankfurt .

National team

Dykes first played for the Welsh national team in August 2007 after playing for the U-19 team. She has not yet qualified for a major tournament with Wales. The Welsh women finished the qualification for the 2011 World Cup on the penultimate place. They achieved the highest win in their international history with a 15-0 win against bottom- bottom Azerbaijan . Dykes was used in six of the eight games. In qualifying for the EURO 2013 they were third. Dykes was only left out of the 1-0 win in Ireland in June 2012. They finished qualifying for the 2015 World Cup in third place, but missed the playoffs of the group runners-up due to a 0-1 defeat in Ukraine on the last day of the match. Dykes was only not used in the first game against Belarus . The qualification for the European Championship in 2017 , they finished in third place. Dykes was only used in three of the eight games in 2016 but also had no appearances in the league. In qualifying for the 2019 World Cup , they fought head-to-head with their big neighbor England for a long time and ultimately came second, but as sixth-best second they missed the playoffs of the group runners-up. Dykes was used in all eight games. On April 4, 2019, she made her 100th international match in a goalless draw against the Czech Republic as the second Welshwoman . The game took place in front of a record Welsh crowd of over 2,100 spectators.
