Lothar Mohn (born November 6, 1954 in Hanau / Main, grew up in Bruchköbel ) is a German cantor and church music director .

Life

Mohn attended the High State School and the Karl Rehbein School in Hanau. There he also received his first organ lessons from KMD Jürgen Hessel and KMD Gerhard Holzner. He gained his first choral experience with Joachim Carlos Martini (director of the Junge Kantorei) and with Hans Michael Beuerle . He studied church music at the University of Church Music in Herford . His teachers included u. a. Wilhelm Ehmann , Hartmut Ernst, Hermann Iseringhausen, Uwe Karsten Groß , Frauke Haasemann, Gisela Jahn, Johannes HE Koch , Mayling Konga, Hans-Jürgen Schnoor , Alexander Völker (theologian) , Klaus Martin Ziegler . During his studies, Mohn attended courses in orchestral conducting and musical phenomonology with Sergiu Celibidache in Trier and Mainz.

From 1982 to 1991 he was district cantor in the Melle parish and cantor at the St. Petri Church in Melle. Since 1991 he has been the church music director for most of the Hanover district and as a cantor in the Neustädter Hof- und Stadtkirche St. Johannis Hannover . There he directs the St. Johannis Choir, the Hanover Handbell Choir and the Hanover Senior Choir. Because of his initiative, singalong events have been held annually in the Neustadt church since 2006 . He was also the initiator of the St. Johannis Music Foundation, of which he is Chairman of the Board of Trustees. In 2015 and 2016 he headed the Stadtkantorei Springe.

From 1997 to 2006 he was President and since 2017 Vice-President of the Association of Protestant Church Musicians of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover . From 2007 to 2008 he was President of the Association of Protestant Church Musicians in Germany and co-editor of the specialist journal Forum Kirchenmusik . He held the function of donation officer for the support group for church music development work from 2009 to 2018. In January 2016 he took over the position of deputy chairman of the International Children's and Youth Choir Center Christ Church in Hanover.
