Lothar Roeßler , also Lothar Roessler (born April 19, 1907 in Zollchow , district of Prenzlau , † November 28, 1990 in Ratzeburg ) was a German high school teacher ( senior teacher ), biologist , geologist and organist .

Life

From his father, who worked as a music teacher at the Lauenburg School of Academics in Ratzeburg, Roeßler inherited his talent and love for music. He worked in his father's school orchestra and helped out as an organist in surrounding rural communities for life.

After graduating from the Lauenburg School of Academics (L. G.), Roeßler first studied theology in Leipzig, then chemistry , biology and geography in Freiburg and Kiel. After his preparatory service in Bad Oldesloe , Ratzeburg and Reinbek , he worked as a study assessor in Itzehoe , Meldorf and Schleswig . During the Second World War , in which he participated from 1941 to 1945, he was appointed to the L.G. on April 1, 1942 in absentia . He was in captivity until 1946. In 1947 he was able to start his service at L. G.

Roeßler taught biology, geography and chemistry at the Lauenburg School of Academics from 1947 to 1969. He founded the Ratzeburg Heimatbund in 1947 and headed it as the Ratzeburg district group of the Heimatbund and History Association of the Duchy of Lauenburg until 1987. He was particularly committed to the preservation of the island's old tree population and its historical townscape. In 1961 he founded the Ratzeburg Animal Welfare Association and directed it.

From 1947 to 1984 he was the district nature conservation officer. The love of nature and respect for creation were close to his heart. He initiated the creation of hiking trails to encourage people to experience nature. The collaboration with the artist Hans Bunge-Ottensen resulted in over 150 oak signposts that Bunge-Ottensen carved, as well as the plaque with the Lorsch bee blessing on the cathedral . The associated beehive was looked after by him for a long time; it had to be removed in 2013 due to a bee disease.

The natural history hikes and excursions led by Roeßler were very popular. In 1957 he published the geological history of Lauenburg . His work was recognized by the award of the Medal of Merit of the city of Ratzeburg, the district of the Duchy of Lauenburg and the State of Schleswig-Holstein as well as the environmental prize of the Duchy of Lauenburg Foundation .
