Lothar Vosseler (born April 5, 1947 in East Westphalia ; † January 29, 2019 in Detmold ) was a German author who became known as the younger half-brother of the former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder ( SPD ).

Life

Lothar Vosseler was born during the second marriage of his mother to Erika (1913–2012) and Paul Vosseler in East Westphalia. He grew up with two biological siblings and two older half-siblings . His half-brother Gerhard Schröder, who later became Federal Chancellor, and his half-sister Gunhild Schröder (1939-2017) come from his mother's first marriage to the unskilled worker Fritz Schröder (1912–1944). The family lived in simple circumstances; the mother made a living for her family by cleaning, working on farms and working in factories.

Vosseler trained as a heating fitter and worked, among other things, as a sewer worker, bread specialist and caretaker. He completed further training and worked in Bielefeld as an IT specialist until 1995. Unemployment combined with short-term employment or temporary jobs were stages in his life.

Vosseler owed his media fame to his prominent relatives. In addition, the tabloid press in particular took up his existence as an unemployed and casual worker, while his successful half-brother was often accused of having contributed to the increased unemployment rate in Germany through the policy he pursued .

In 2002 he worked briefly as a tourist guide for the operation of the passenger submarine Nemo in Magaluf on Mallorca . As a celebrity , Vosseler made a guest appearance (for a few hours) on June 12, 2004 in the fifth " Big Brother " season of the German TV station RTL II . Vosseler wrote a weekly column for the Kölner Express for a short period in 1999 and 2000 . Since January 2005 he lived on Hartz 4 . He was retired in May 2007.

As the author of several books and a newspaper column, as well as in numerous interviews in various print media and during live appearances on television talk shows , he also addressed the relationship with his half-brother in particular. Vosseler was married, lived in Detmold and had a son.
