Louis Eugène Mouchon (* 30th August 1843 in Paris ; † 3. March 1914 in Montrouge ) was a French engraver , medalist , gem cutter , stamps - and notes - Stecher , but also as a bookbinder , enameller and Goldsmith worked.

life and work

Mouchon learned to engrave in his father's workshop at Place Dauphine No. 5. He started out with typographic engravings on steel, bronze and wood. Like Oscar Roty, he was involved in three postage stamp issues in France , especially from 1870 onwards. In French, this included La Semeuse 'the sower' , which was produced in several variations. Another stamp was the stamp with a seated Justitia holding a plaque with the French inscription Droits de l'Homme 'Human Rights' .

With his numerous medals and plaques, Mouchon has regularly participated in exhibitions at the Salon de Paris since 1887 , and also took part in competitions for the students of book printers and lithographers .

Mouchon the son of the engraver and engraver Louis Auguste Mouchon and his wife Marie Alexandrine (née Degouy, † August 26, 1858). He had an older sister Marie Louise (born October 18, 1841, presumably died before 1858) and a younger sister Marie Julie (born June 29, 1845).

He was married to Adélaïde Léonie Louise Sylvie (nee Terrier, born August 16, 1851) since April 21, 1868. She was the daughter of Ange Benoit Claude Terrier and his wife Marie Louise Sylvie (née Samier). Before the actual marriage, they signed a marriage contract on April 18, 1868. Her witnesses were Charles Gaulon and François Guillaume Alphonse Lathelize. The marriage had two children

  • Georges Auguste Mouchon (born February 18, 1873) ⚭ October 24, 1901 with Marguerite Julie Antoinette (née Damont).
