Destin is a city in Okaloosa County in the US state of Florida with 12,305 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Destin is located on a barrier island between Choctawhatchee Bay to the north and the Gulf of Mexico to the south. The city is about 50 km south of Crestview and about 70 km east of Pensacola . It is to Crestview and Fort Walton Beach , the third largest city in the metropolitan region of Fort Walton Beach .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 12,305 inhabitants were distributed over 13,290 households. Many of them are holiday apartments that are used as a second home. The population density was 631.0 inh / km². 90.1% of the population identified themselves as whites , 1.5% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 2.1% as Asian Americans . 3.1% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.0% to several ethnic groups. 6.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 24.8% of all households lived in 25.2% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 60.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.30 people and the average family size was 2.78 people.
20.3% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 28.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 21.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 41 years. 50.7% of the population were male and 49.3% were female.
The median annual income was $ 63,750, with 8.3% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 95.60% of the population, 2.70% spoke Spanish and 1.70% had another mother tongue.

Destin is crossed by US Highway 98 ( SR 30 ). The nearest airports are Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (around 25 km northwest) and Pensacola International Airport (around 80 km west). Destin Executive Airport, which is only approved for non-commercial flight activities, is also located in the city .
