Mary Esther is a city in Okaloosa County in the US state of Florida with 3,851 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Mary Esther is located on Santa Rosa Sound (part of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway ) on the Gulf Coast of the Florida Panhandle and borders the city of Fort Walton Beach . The city is about 40 km south of Crestview and about 60 km east of Pensacola .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 3851 inhabitants were distributed among 1779 households. The population density was 962.8 inh / km². 95.7% of the population identified themselves as whites , 7.0% as African American , 0.6% as Indians and 5.2% as Asian Americans . 2.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 4.3% to several ethnic groups. 7.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 30.4% of all households lived in 24.7% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 67.3% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.38 people and the average family size was 2.82 people.
20.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 31.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 23.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 47 years. 49.3% of the population were male and 50.7% were female.
The median annual income was $ 59,315, with 3.5% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 92.97% of the population, 4.86% spoke Spanish and 2.17% had another mother tongue.
