Louis Bernhard Rüling

Louis Bernhard Rüling (born August 1, 1822 in Oederan ; † November 12, 1896 in Dresden ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian and pastor , court preacher and councilor of the Saxon Lutheran state consistory .

Life

The son of the Oederaner pastor Johann Ludwig Rüling and his wife Juliane Adolphine Hacker attended the Princely School in Meißen from 1835 and the University of Leipzig from 1841 . In Leipzig he joined the student union Landsmannschaft Afrania . After working as a private tutor at the lawyer Tischer in Oberlößnitz from 1844 , he became archdeacon in Oschatz in 1848 , deacon in 1852 and later archdeacon at the Dreikönigskirche in Dresden and in 1855 pastor primarius at St. Petri in Bautzen . After Louis Bernhard Rüling was named honorary doctor of the University of Leipzig at the commemoration of the 300th anniversary of Philipp Melanchthon's death in 1860 , he became second court preacher and consistorial councilor in Dresden in 1866 and first court chaplain and senior consistorial councilor at the Lutheran state consistory in 1874. He remained in this position until his retirement in 1888. Rüling died in Dresden in 1896 and was buried in the Trinitatisfriedhof .

Rüling was also a member of the board of the Gustav-Adolf-Verein , member of the board of the main association for internal mission (1867-1896) and a member of the committee of the Saxon main mission association (1866-1896). He was also the chairman of the Dresden Candidate Association, participated in the development of the new agenda that came into force in 1880, the pericope order, and had taken part in the new hymn book published in 1883. This led to a reorganization of the church system and reflected the memory of the founding fathers of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. In addition, Rüling was holder of the Saxon Order of Merit, 1st class; Commander of the Grand Duke. Mecklenburg. House order of the Wendish Crown and the Cross of Honor for voluntary nursing.
