Louis Marie Levesque de Laferrière

Comte Louis Marie Levesque de Laferrière (also Levesque de la Ferrière or de Laferrière-Levesque ; born April 9, 1776 in Redon , † November 23, 1834 in Vallery ), was a general of the Revolution and the Empire .

Life

Louis Marie Levesque de Laferrière was the son of François-Marie Lévesque, Sieur de la Ferrière. The young Louis-Marie studied in Rennes .

Military career

He first joined the Garde Nationale de Rennes and then moved to the Régiment de Royal Deux-Ponts . With this he took part in the campaigns of 1793 and 1794 and belonged with the regiment to the "Armée du Nord" and the "Armée de Sambre-et-Meuse". As aide-de-camp from Général Monnet, he was assigned to the Vendée ( uprising of the Vendée ). Then transferred to the 3 e régiment de hussards , he took part in the Battle of Austerlitz (1805), the Battle of Eylau (1807) and the Battle of Friedland (1807).

Under the command of Maréchal Ney , he served in Spain and fought in the Battle of Tudela in 1808 . He was wounded at Col de Banos and at Miranda do Corvo .

On May 13, 1813, the Chevalier was promoted to Général de brigade and on November 28, 1813 to Général de division . In the same year he fought in the Battle of Dresden , the Battle of Kulm , the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig , and the Battle of Hanau . He then took part in the campaign in France in 1814 and fought at Langres , the Battle of Champaubert , the Battle of Montmirail , the Battle of Château-Thierry and the Battle of Vauchamps . As Colonel-en-second (Deputy Regimental Commander) of the Grenadiers à cheval de la Garde impériale , he was hit by a cannonball in the Battle of Craonne , so that his leg had to be amputated.

Since the first restoration he was in command of the "École de cavalerie de Saumur" (cavalry school) in Saumur .

Political career

During the reign of the Hundred Days from May 16 to June 1, 1815, he was Deputy of the Maine-et-Loire department . He was nominated for the Chambre des pairs . On the return of Louis XVIII. however, this nomination was rejected.

In 1821 he was granted retirement, from then on he served as General Councilor of the Yonne department .

In 1832 he was still Peer of France and "Commandant général de la garde nationale" (Supreme Commander of the National Guard).

Louis Marie Levesque de Laferrière died on November 23, 1834 at Vallery Castle.
