Louis Schaurté

Louis Schaurté (born March 20, 1851 in Cologne-Deutz , † November 22, 1934 in Berlin ), actually Ludwig Hubert Schaurte, was a top-class German restaurateur and hotelier.

Life

He was the son of the Deutz mayor and entrepreneur Gerhard Schaurte (1803-1878) and Louise Hubertine von Ketteler. His upbringing was the responsibility of the superintendent Friedrich Back in Kastellaun at a young age . Later he attended the Marzellen-Gymnasium in Cologne.

In 1863 Schaurté began his apprenticeship with the court confectioner Botz in Worms . After his apprenticeship, the years of traveling followed, he became a volunteer in the kitchen of the Hotel D'Harscamp in Namur , which he left as chef de cuisine to attend the "College of Culinary Art" in Paris . Stations after that were Hamburg in the Hotel Atlantic by Franz Pfordte , Cologne (Hotel du Nord), Düsseldorf (Thürnagel) and Berlin ( Hotel Kaiserhof ).

Schaurté became known after taking over the Hotel Monopol ( "big presentation" , Friedrichstrasse 99/100) at Berlin Friedrichstrasse station with his first-class restaurant L. Schaurte , in which he offered "patriotic menus" . As a monopoly owner, Schaurté also leased the restaurant in the Reichstag building for ten years .

Schaurté, honored as the "Ducal Court Supplier ", is buried in the Catholic cemetery of the St. Matthias Congregation in Berlin-Tempelhof .
