Loungo Matlhaku (born March 24, 1995 in Khakhea ) is a Botswana sprinter .

Athletic career

Loungo Matlhaku gained her first international experience at the Junior African Championships 2011 in Gaborone , where she won the silver medal in the 100 meter run in 12.01 s and was eighth in the 200 meters in 25.48 s. In addition, she won the bronze medal in the Botswana 4 x 100 meter relay in 48.46 s. She then took part in the Youth World Championships in Villeneuve-d'Ascq near Lille , where she was eliminated over 100 meters in the first round, while she reached the semifinals over 200 meters, in which she was eliminated with 24.71 s. She then finished fourth and fifth at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Douglas . Two years later she won the bronze medal in the 200-meter run at the Junior African Championships in Bambous in 24.62 s . In 2014 she was eliminated from both disciplines in the preliminary stages of the Junior World Championships in Eugene . At the African Championships in Marrakech , she was eliminated in the semifinals over 200 meters in 24.70 seconds and won the bronze medal behind Nigeria and Kenya in the Botswana 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 40.28 minutes. At the 2015 IAAF World Relays in the Bahamas , she finished fifth in the B final with 3: 35.76 minutes.

At the 2016 African Championships in Durban , she finished eighth over 100 meters in 11.67 s and seventh over 200 meters in 24.18 s. In addition, she was fifth in the 4 x 100 meter relay in 46.10 s. At the IAAF World Relays 2017 in the Bahamas , she did not finish with the mixed relay. In 2018 she took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time and was eliminated in the semifinals with 23.98 s and won the bronze medal behind Jamaica and Nigeria in 3: 26.86 min. In August she retired from the African Championships in Asaba with 12.08 seconds in advance and was fourth in the relay in 3: 42.16 minutes. The following year she reached the semi-finals over 100 meters at the Summer Universiade in Naples , where she was eliminated with 11.63 s. In August she finished seventh over 200 meters in 23.84 s at the Africa Games in Rabat .

In 2014, Matlhaku became the Botswana champion in the 100-meter run and in 2017 over the 200 meters.
