Love Hina ( Japaneseラ ブ ひ な) is a completed manga series by the Japanese artist Ken Akamatsu , which was also implemented as an anime series. It is to be assigned to the Shōnen genre.
action
Love Hina is about the boy Keitaro Urashima, who wants to study at the University of Tokyo ( Tōkyō Daigaku , also Tōdai or Tokyo-U ), but is about to fail the entrance exam for the third time.
Since his parents threw him out at home, he is taken to the Hinata Inn ( Hinata Ryokan ), which belongs to his grandma. To Keitaro's amazement, only girls and young women live here. There he meets Naru Narusegawa, a girl he has already seen taking the entrance exams for the Tōdai. He suspects she is his sandpit love, with whom he made a promise as a child: Both of them will go to the Tōdai together. However, this girl moved away and he never saw her again.
Keitaro is employed at the Hinata Inn by his aunt as a caretaker - or rather as a “girl for everything”. As the only boy in a girls' hostel, he is often teased and teased by the residents. Together with them, Keitaro goes through some adventures, situations of normal life and also some exceptional situations. In doing so, he becomes more and more part of the group from an outsider.
In the course of the plot, a relationship slowly develops between Naru and Keitaro, who believes this is the girl from his childhood. However, a girl named Mutsumi Otohime then appears, and it seems that it is the secret love from Keitaro's childhood. Although the childhood promise is incredibly important to Keitaro, he realizes that his love for Naru is stronger. After all three have passed the test for the Tōdai, Naru and Keitaro become a couple, and marry in the final volume.
characters
- Keitaro Urashima
- Keitaro (浦 島 景 太郎Urashima Keitarō ) is 19 years old at the beginning of the series and was appointed caretaker of the Hinata Inn by his grandmother Hinata Urashima, who is on a world tour. With a promise he made to his sandpit love 15 years ago, he is determined to be accepted into the University of Tokyo. He's always had bad luck with women, he's not exactly the most successful at learning and his clumsiness keeps him in ambiguous situations, which is why he is quickly decried as a pervert and pervert. He goes to great lengths not to be a burden on his friends and cannot bear to see others unhappy.
- Naru Narusegawa
- Naru (成 瀬 川奈 留Narusegawa Naru ) is one of the residents of the Hinata Inn and is 17 years old at the beginning of the series. Just like Keitaro, she is also trying to get accepted into the University of Tokyo. Naru is highly intelligent and beautiful, but quickly becomes jealous, which is why Keitaro often gets to feel Naru's fist. Nevertheless, a love relationship develops between the two. She is a good-hearted person and cares about the well-being of her roommates.
- Mutsumi Otohime
- Mutsumi (乙 姫 睦 美Otohime Mutsumi ) also tries to get to the Tōdai. Like Keitaro, she failed the entrance examination three times, even though she is gifted. She is the only person who never hides her love for Keitaro. Mutsumi suffers from severe circulatory problems, which is why she often seems very clumsy and naive, but she is actually incredibly strong and intelligent.
- Shinobu Maehara
- Although Shinobu (前 原 忍Maehara Shinobu ) is only twelve years old, she is irreplaceable for the Hinata Inn, as she often takes care of the house all by herself and cooks for everyone. She is very shy and easily starts to cry, but as the series progresses, she partially breaks this behavior. She is the first resident of the dormitory to fall in love with Keitaro, but because of her lack of self-confidence, she never manages to express this.
- Motoko Aoyama
- Motoko (青山 素 子Aoyama Motoko ) is 15 years old at the beginning of the series and another resident of the Hinata Inn. She is an excellent swordsman, but a reserved and mostly serious character. She spends a lot of time training and hides her body under baggy clothes because she can't stand to put on dresses or skirts. She is also terrified of her sister and of turtles. At first she despises Keitaro, but like all the other residents of the Hinata Inn, she falls in love with Keitaro.
- Mitsune Konno
- Mitsune (紺 野 美 津Konno Mitsune , nickname " Kitsune " [狐], fox ) is 19 years old at the beginning of the series and one of the residents of the Hinata Inn. She'd rather drink alcohol and gamble than work and get the rent to pay for it. She particularly likes to emphasize her “feminine virtues”.
- Su Kaora
- At the beginning of the series, 13-year-old Su (カ オ ラ ・ ス ゥKaora Suu , also Kaolla Suu ) is a real bundle of energy and technically gifted. With her playful, hectic manner and her crazy inventions, she ensures all kinds of hustle and bustle at the Hinata Inn. Su comes from the distant kingdom of Molmol and is the princess loved by everyone there. She is very fond of Motoko and often sleeps in her room. Su is mostly hungry and tries to eat tamago.
- Haruka Urashima
- Haruka (浦 島 晴 香Urashima Haruka ) is Keitaro's aunt, the former caretaker of the Hinata Inn and now the owner of the Hinata tea house. She is a chain smoker, and her character is rather balanced and unfathomable. She has a relationship with Seta but doesn't want to admit it at first. At the beginning of the series, she is 27 years old.
- Seta Noriyasu
- Seta (瀬 田 記 康Seta Noriyasu ) is Professor of Archeology at the University of Tokyo. He used to tutor Naru and Kitsune and they fell in love with him. He too failed the entrance exam three times. Seta is Sarah McDougal's adoptive father.
- Sarah MacDougal
- Sarah (サ ラ ・ マ ク ド ゥ ガ ル, or 莎拉 ・ 麥杜爾Sara Makudōgaru ) is Seta's adopted daughter. When Keitaro starts working for Seta, she always gives him trouble; z. B. breaks something and blames him. Seta moves her to the Hinata Inn against her will, but finds a good friend there in Su. She always has nonsense on her mind.
- Kanako Urashima
- Kanako (浦 島 可 奈 子Urashima Kanako ) was 17 years old when she showed up at the Hinata Inn. She is Keitaro's younger sister (though not related by blood, she was adopted by Keitaro's parents) and a little difficult. She was on a world tour with her grandmother, but comes back to the pension towards the end of the series (Volume 11 or “Love Hina Again - Kanako”) and temporarily turns it into a hotel during Keitaro's absence. Over time it becomes clear that she is in love with her brother Keitaro, and a tense relationship develops between her and Naru. Kanako keeps a list of the other residents of the Hinata Inn and can also imitate them ( Cosplay ). Kanako is the only one in the pension who can compete with Motoko because she has mastered the secret fighting techniques of the Urashima family.
- Tamago (卵, but everyone always just calls it Tama )
- Tama is a water turtle, more precisely an onsen water turtle (a fictional species). The difference to all other turtle species is that it can write and even fly. Keitaro received Tama as a present from Mutsumi.
- Hina Urashima
- Hina is Keitaro's grandmother. She is on an ongoing world tour and employs Keitaro as a property manager. Your goal is to bathe in a variety of hot springs around the world.
Publications
Love Hina was published in Japan in individual chapters in the manga magazine Shōnen Magazine of the Kodansha publishing house. These individual chapters have also been summarized in 14 edited volumes. The topic was prepared by Ken Akamatsu and Kurou Hazuki for a novel adaptation as a light novel ("Zieh Leine, Keitaro" and "The Secret Source"). In addition, two special volumes “Volume 0” and “Volume ∞” have been published, which provide background information on the series.
A special chapter will appear on the occasion of the publication of the 300th chapter of Ken Akamatsu's new series Magister Negi Magi on September 1, 2010 in Shōnen Magazine .
Apart from the two special volumes, the manga series was published entirely in German by Egmont Manga and Anime (EMA).
On November 26, 2010, Ken Akamatsu started the website J-Comi , on which manga that are no longer published should be published free of charge and free of DRM . The offer, which was in beta status at that time, started with all 14 volumes of Love Hina .
Anime
The anime for Love Hina consists of 30 episodes including 2 specials: Christmas Special - Silent Eve ( ク リ ス マ ス ス ペ シ ャ ル 〜 サ イ レ ン ト ト ・ イ ヴ 〜 ) and Haru Special - Kimi Sakura chiru nakare !! ( 春 ス ペ シ ャ ル 〜 キ ミ サ ク ラ チ ル ナ カ レ !! 〜 ). Although the basic story in the anime remains the same and begins with Keitaro's arrival at the pension, each episode is, as it were, its own mini-story, each revolving around a separate topic such as friendship, courage, change or love. For this purpose, events from the manga are processed, but so-called "anime-only" stories are also told that do not appear in the manga, but only in the anime. In the last episode, Naru and Keitaro become a couple (this cannot be clearly defined in the manga, actually only Volume 12).
A three episode OVA with the title Love Hina Again ( ラ ブ ひ な Again), which deals with the end of the series (the plot of the manga from volume 11), was also animated by Xebec .
The series and the OVAs were published in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Poland by Anime Virtual (now Kazé) on 9 DVDs. On August 27, 2007, it was re-released in a total of 3 DVD boxes. The soundtrack is also available from Wasabi Records in Germany.
